Lights, Water, Internet

Bwahahahahaha - I bet you'all a gazillion rands that they have costed this thing out at current overinflated costs, and they think that it's a good idea. When competition actually arrives and begins to take effect, these municipality driven things are going to end up being fed money from other minicipal services as a "shared cost" and will become more expansive than it is worth.

So - currently it seems like a good idea.
Reality is that open market competition is a much better and sustainable idea.
This is just governmint finding another angle to attack us from.

Mmm - I am worried that some municipalities are just going to say "oh - but there is already Telkom for this"

I think it will depend entirely on the degree of nepotism/ kickbacks and inter-marriage between the various municipalities and government oops I mean Telkom ... after all you aren't exactly going to knee uncle telkom in the groin if he is feeding your "gravy train lifestyle" and contributing towards your children's education and your retirement fund.

Declare the cable a national asset already!

I second that.

Should this be implemented in Jhb, I will seriously consider signing up with them.

Makes me think of squirrels trying to gather as much nuts as possibly before winter comes.
Agree... :D but in this case it should be drought... a very severe money-drought... wonder if they'll start importing monopoly money to make up for the shortfall? :D

I spoke to your City Manager and he's quite outspoken against Telkom, he touched on this issue so I think you can expect to see something happening in the near future
