Hi

Is anyone making use of the Lightspeed (Cybersmart) FTTH service? if Yes feedback would be most welcome.

Currently need to find an urgent alternative to Telkom ADSL in Rondebosch - Seems the Exchange is on 0% capacity and I cant see this being fixed anytime soon.
 
I would also like to see some feedback on their service.
 
You will be wasting your time. They require you to get 10 sign ups (Only if there is an DFA line in your street - More sign ups the further the line is away.) On top of this, you will need to split a overhead cost bill for installation to your street if there is no DFA line nearby. Once you done with all this, you can then eventually get locked into a 24 month contract with them. And oh boi - you are going to have fun times with them. They don't want to talk to people who are inquiring about this info - imagine how bad it will be for the customers.

It's not 10 signups but a minimum monthly amount.
When I enquired they politely told me to f off. I think they have quite a large number of applicants currently.

RCID is canvassing interest for fibre access in Rondebosch.I would recommend getting hold of them or PM me if you want more details.
 
I was quoted 20k for Harfield Village in Kenilworth. But then i thought of who actually stayed in my block and there is no chance they would sign up lol
 
Cyberspeed LightSpeed has officially blown my mind

Our Cybersmart LightSpeed fibre connection went live today. It took about 2 months to install and cost R15k which we are paying off over 12 months. All that I can say is that this connection is the most incredible thing I have ever experienced in my life. Youtube Videos in 1080P starts instantly AND you can jump to anywhere in the video - instantly. Websites (even banking sites) open up immediately. I can watch any movies or series direct from the internet - no more downloads. We have been uploading backup call recordings at 95Mbps most of the afternoon while we download at 60 or 70Mbps. My mind is blown.

Guys this is a winner. Beg, borrow or steal but get your mates to chip in and get this in now. You will never look back!

Where about did you install the fibre? I'm in Sandton and busy gauging the interest at my complex.
Also do you maybe know how far was the closest fibre node?
 
Do what it takes but get it into your complex

This was an installation in Carlswald, Midrand. We were about 300m from the node. It cost R15k to install as we are a stand alone building.

It is completely worth it to get this in a complex. I have never been so impressed with any new technology in my life! It's so awesome no longer being dependent on Telkom or terrible wireless.

I saw on DFA's website there are several appartment complexes that already has it installed

Oh great, yea a office block/apartment complex across is connected to the DFA network. We are less than 100m from the node. Hoping to finish with the application this month and get connected soon.

I see lightspeed has a contention of 15:1 (Depending on the option you took) on International. Care to post some international speed tests for the guys looking to get this...I'm sure local is 100% but it is always international we worry about.

Are you going to pay to get the fibre to your house or is it being included in your monthly fee?

It's included in the contract and in my case since I stay in a complex we require a minimum number of subscribers. Quoted for a minimum total value of r12k.

my contention is 10:1

international speeds vary depending which one you select and time of day, the most I got was to a London server (70mbs up and down) but they are generally around 50 up and down.

How does the line handle with gaming, does the ping fluctuate or does it remain solid also are there any NAT issues with lines?
 
my ping to Joburg is about 23-27ms, it doesn't fluctuate at all, it is a straight thin green line with absolutely no packet loss, its like a LAN experience

Thanks, may I also ask what games you play using the line?
