So my ADSL phone line at home has been doing this for some time now... about a year.
I report it to Telkom and they test the line and say they cannot find anything wrong.
I have replaced all the equipment (router, telephone handsets and micro-filters).
When somebody calls it sounds really fuzzy for a few minutes then the line goes clear.

So eventually I got so fed up with the line dropping whenever somebody calls, that I just took out all the phones and put them in the garage.
So all that is left on the line is the Billion Router (new).
But even now, it is still dropping.
I tested it by calling my home line from my cellphone and it makes the modem lose synch.

What can be causing this, even though Telkom says the line is fine?

Same problem I had with the old line except incoming calls was not something I worried about

The problem is in the exchange, with the DSLAM. In my case Telkom also played the "free of defects" line with me. In my case putting in a new line from scratch solved the problem

IF you can get hold of a Telkom technician just get them to change your subscriber number line pair that connects to the main trunk -- assuming there are still some free spare pairs available.
( In a sense same as getting a new line but without changing your number )

For a skilled technician a fairly trivial job.

I tried that... I even GOT SOMEONE ON THIS FORUM to put pressure on Telkom... even asked the technician that came here to do it... nothing happened. Putting in a new line was the best way for me to solve my problem.
