hi guys

so since i moved over to 10mbps, my line seems to be dropping a whole lot more than it used to. Seems to always happen in the middle of a bloody game of HoN. I dont have to do anything, I just leave it and it comes back....

The problem I also have, is that I also changed from MWEB uncapped to OpenWeb uncapped. I dont think that is the issue though.

My question is, how do you determine exactly who is at fault when you line goes down?

drop the speed to 8mb

or get a router with better snr ratings, sometimes help if you have a old router :P

Please post your ADSL stats (line attenuation, SNR margins and sync speeds), which can be found on your router's webpage.

Hereticangel & I think that your problem is that your SNR margins are too low, resulting in the ADSL dropping.

I usually recommend SNR margins of 12dB or higher.
You can increase the SNR margin by roughly 3dB for each 1Mbps that you reduce your ADSL speed with.

got the same problem. for a month. both mweb and cybersmart say there's nothing wrong. on axxess no problem. strange.

and everytime it rains i've got no adsl... try explaining this to telkom, as they only work when the sun is shining!!!!

Yes, my estimate of +3dB/-1Mbps was for G.Dmt, but I'd guess that ADSL2+'s ratio won't be too far off from that either.

I recently bumped my line up from 8mb to 10mb on adsl2+ and the interesting thing is that although my upstream snr dropped by 5 my downstream snr remained the same.Using a tp link W8960N
