anyone know what it really means when telkom say that your line isn't synchronizing? most times i call they tell me "your line is 100% dsl ready" - then when i tell them that it isn't they say something like "oh yes i see why - not synching. they're working on it."

could it have anything to do with my modem? i applied for the self-install but i'm using a different modem to the one i got for free from telkom.

In layman's terms it means your modem is unable to get a connection established to the DSLAM you're connected to (typically at the exchange).
i.e. They haven't wired it up or there's a fault somewhere.

okay. so it makes no difference that i'm not using the modem they expect me to use?

for router to sync:

-dslam with card installed (telkom)
-line working in pots state (telkom)
-filters correctly installed (you)
-router/modem present +installed (you)

for adsl to work:

-verification site if self-install option (you - order#+tel#)
-adsl account (you)
-bridge/router mode (you)

@MrNutz,

well my modem is installed and present. and i've unplugged all telephones around the house (first i wanna get it working before i get filters). don't receive too many calls on this line anyway.

what do you mean by "-verification site if self-install option (you - order#+tel#)"?

ok - not relevant to sync - but if u take self install - you must access the telkom verification URL - with your telephone number (circuit # ) and your order number....otherwise you CANNOT open ANY website except telkom? and the verification site.

altho self install either saves u money - or takes less time - it leaves room for the verification DB/operator to NOT do his/her duty and leave u with a setup not working..

have experienced this ALOT!!!! u enter both items ...wait for the promised 30mins and NOTHING....

other times it works like a charm..quick within 5min- 100% working ADSL
