Line speed increase?

I just noticed that my 512k line is syncing at 1152 down/352 up

The downstream speed is still about 480kbps (normal 512k speed) despite syncing at 1152kbps, but the upstream speed is the full 352 kbps that it's syncing at.

Has anybody else experienced a change in sync? Perhaps a possible planned speed increase that they're trialling?

I haven't experienced a speed increase (I'm already at max ) but my line has been funny the entire weekend. Noise margin has been fluctuating a lot, dropped down to 8dB yesterday (from the 25+dB that it always runs at), then died for about 10 minutes. Seemed fine in the evening (back at over 25dB). Then, today at 11am, my noise margin dropped to 7dB It's been constant at that dismal rate for over 12h now. I'm hoping that it is temporary (that they are messing around with something), although it could be that something has gone wrong (I hope not). My attenuation remains unchanged, and the line is noisy (static) if I pick up the phone (yes, the phone is connected via a filter).

Anyone else?

Hi,

Still the same here in Centurion (with a Telkom 512kbps line). Upstream is 256k and downstream sync rate is 512k.

Sadly Telkom are playing games with us. Upping the line speed is nice but it cost them nothing to do this. Just a tweak on the routers and maybe a little faster sped on the link to the exchange.

If they wanted to provide real value to their customers they would cut the cost of SAIX bandwidth by half and double all the caps. They could even abolish the 1GB offering and only sell in multiples of 2GB I wouldn't reaally care but that would make more of a difference to my life than changing my 384Kbps line to 1Mbps.

Although I wouldn't complain if they did that.

Are u going to phone telkom and ask them to reduce the speed?

I have something similar with a 384 line, modem shows it syncing at 2048/512

Unfortunately downloads are still only at 384 speeds, but uploads seems to be 384 as well, so finally I have a SDSL line

My 4MB line still sync's at 2048/512. But it is flying this morning(Although speedtest not showing this. 1745/406 with 99ms ping from DBN)

Well there are rumours of linespeed increases across the board

384 -> 512
512 -> 1Mb
4Mb -> 8 Mb

Well they always trial things before they launch them, like they did when they trialled 4Mb before launching it across the board, so you never know

No one said they have already upgraded the lines. Those are the proposed upgrades, which they should be trialing with some customers, they probably know who they are.
