Hi,

I want to upgrade my line with Telkom from 4mbps to 10 mbps. However before I commit to a 24 month contract, I want to be sure that I can get the max speed from it. I am currently getting about 3.5mbps with my 4 meg line. The reason for the upgrade is that I get constant buffering when I stream kodi to my TV via chromecast.
See my router stats below, and advise whether I should upgrade or not and what speeds can I realistically expect

SNR Margin: 14.6dB
Attenuation:35.5dB
Output Power:11.3dBm
Attainable Rate:8736Kbps
Rate:4096:Kbps

You will probably get the same, even if you upgrade to 10mb line. Its more the hardware than the actual Line speed etc. I have an Android media player, and I'm getting the same via kodi. Personally I need to replace my hardware, or get a proper pc with enough ram.

Send a private message to TelkomZA and ask them to run a FULL line test on your circuit to ascertain the maximum attainable rate and to see if there are are faults on your copper line that will prevent you from getting a full 10Mbps..

So what you saying is I will still get buffering with a 10meg line???? How do I get rid of the buffering?
Go on youtube, and search for something called Easy Advanced settings or Advanced Easy settings, and follow that instruction. It may or may not work though. It is an add-on to limit the initial buffering, and then play things smoothly from there.

I'm also on a 4 meg line, and I get the occasional buffering issue, and also a bit of jittering but hey I'm not too fussed about it.

Will do ...and check it out tonight... Just for interest sake, which addons are you using for streaming with kodi

Your internet connection won't affect the chromecast streaming in any way... The reasons for the buffering of Kodi could be:

1. Is the PC you're streaming from powerful enough to play the video?
2. What's the wifi connection to the chromecast like?
3. Are other devices on the wifi eating all the bandwidth?
4. Do you have a proper router?
etc
etc
etc

EDIT: also your router says max speed of 8meg, it's unlikely that you will get higher than this as your attenuation is quite high.

Only really youtube, and sometimes I use a few of the addon thats Radio.

I do use a now and then 1 Channel, which is a bit better than Genesis imo.

Otherwise YouTube mainly as I do alot of research on coaching etc

I have the standard Telkom issued D-Link DSL275U router.
Could this be the problem.....and which router would be sufficient for proper streaming.

All the other factors you mentioned is under control

Where exactly are you streaming from? A kodi add-on(youtube etc) or from media files on the PC(downloaded movies etc)?

I am streaming on my Galaxy 4 tablet via the kodi android app, and cast the screen to my TV via chromecast

As I said, cyrus you will have to mess around with settings.

Quick question, on Genesis are you using HD, HQ, MQ, or LQ? on my 40 inch tv I use the LQ option, and it doesn't buffer, and the picture is stil of decent quality. But as said, I don't use it much
