Hi there

I'm new here, but have been reading some posts for a while now... :)

I have a Telkom 4 Mbps line, and a IS 5 GB (yes yes, its nothing :( ), and at first it used to connect at least @ 2.7Mbps. but recently it only connects at 640Kbps, or slower!!

I've been in contact with IS, and the say my account should connect at 3.1Mbps, so it doesn't seem to be a problem on their side...

So, what can i do about this, People from telkom sound confused when i try and explain it? (... "is the internet still working", "yes but very slow", "but it is still working???" , "nevermind")

any help would be appreciated, thanks !!!!

lol telk0m id1ots

You might be experiencing 'line noise'

or the most common problem is, you are far away from the nearest exchange, which will result in slower syncs.

I dunno if it could be that, why would it then have connected @ 2.7 Mbps for over 2 months? and i can throw their headquaters in centurion with a stone (i've tried... came close), i'm so close to them :) not that that makes a difference?

I must say that I've noticed a reduction in the total line speed on my 512/256 fibre - usually could d/l at about 59-61KB, but suddenly dropped to about 47-50KB in the last week - and it won't go any faster.

I had the line checked and no noise issues, fairly close to the exchange too, at about 400 meters.

Really strange... it pi$$es me off when you pay a fortune monthly and get crappy data service.

ja, i don't know why, at first it was 2.7, then for like a day or two, went down to 1.5, then BOOM, 640K, there u go.....

might it have to do with Dr. Beetroot being minister of IT now?

I've been experiencing this problem for about 4 months now. After having my line for about a year, my browsing and dowloading speeds dropped dramatically and neither Telkom nor my service provider have been able to do anything about it since then.
The worst is, after a while they start ignoring you.

since mid January my 4 Mbps line at the office has been dropping frequently. At the worst it is unusable, at its best it drops about ten times a day.

I have been through 5 different reference numbers with Telkom support. They are also getting fed up with me. They say they have investigated everything and the line is clear. We have replaced the router and the POTS filters but it still persists. Today they switched us over to a different copper line to the street box, but it still drops.

I think Telkom is just losing control of their network. They don't have the money or the knowledge to repair and maintain this copper network.

Completely and utterly useless.

Seacom couldn't arrive any sooner hey :)

the will provide bandwidth not help with the rubbish copper network.
