Linux and RAW on a AAO

I'm not complaining - it seems to work pretty well which surprised me after your earlier remarks.

My remarks about how well Wine works is based on my having to work with Microsoft Office 2007 in Wine, so excuse the bias :o It doesn't even work 100% in Windows

Ok - so for the linux noob - Fedora or Ubuntu?

In about 40 minutes. I think - I never received any confirmation of the time. I seem to remember someone saying it starts at 08:00

Yep go with ubuntu, just use the repo browser(add/remove) and search for 'picasa' and 'raw' it will auto magically install the apps you select.

You trying to install Ubuntu? intrepid?

Take it to the Linux section we'll help you out.
Thanks but I've already spent nearly a day on this and thats about my limit.

Everything seems to work but the wireless networking. Going to fiddle a little tonight and then wipe Ubuntu off and load up windows or something else tomorrow.

Interesting, a colleague of mine bought an Acer netbook preinstalled with Linux (can't remember which flavour) and the thing that impressed him most was the ease of networking.

It actually comes with Fedora on. It's got that silly menu interface on top (I haven't figured out how to get rid of it), but under the skin it's a fairly regular fedora. A colleague bought one for their travels (they're gone now) and I helped them a bit to put Skype and a few bits/pieces on.

Getting rid of that was actually pretty straight forward. Maybe I'll reinstall the default OS again (Fedora 8 iirc) and get on with other things. I really liked the way Ubuntu looked on it but it's too much hassle.

Yeah, stick to the default OS if you're having trouble with Ubuntu. Linux is still Linux.
