Linux/Beryl white-screen problem, need help

7.10 has an update feature?

Was thinking if this is a daft question as well :)

Yip

On the ubuntu site they already give the howto on how to upgrade to the 8.04 beta version

The funniest thing is, when you read of a new windows OS comming out or an upgrade available (not service packs), there are usually a number of posts wanting to know the cost, with linux there is nada, zip, nothing, zigalo!!

Just my Internet cap :(

Then again Vista has taken so much of my cap and eventually screwed itself in the eye with SP1 I feel DX10 is not worth the fuss anymore. I hardly game that much nowadays anyway.

Linux ftw!! :)

In case you are with Telkom on ADSL - you've got plenty of local Gigs to use on Ubuntu (at least 10 on promotion right now) after being capped.

Thanks for the heads up. :) I'm not with Telkom though (with WebAfrica) but I do have a local account which will be far cheaper than International.

BTW I got Beryl to work on Kanotix and I'm slowly learning this debian stuff.

Not sure exactly what fixed it as yet but my steps were as follows:

1. Edited the boot file (boot/grup/menu.lst) where it says VGA=xxx(think xxx was 791), changed it to VGA=normal. Before it was throwing my monitor out of sync and crashing x-server with control-alt-f1 but with VGA=normal it works fine and allows me to install nvidia drivers in the terminal without bombing out.

2. Updated linux. apt-get update in terminal as poweruser

3. Ran install-nvidia-debian.sh as root in cntr+alt+f1 terminal

My guess is the nvidia update solved the white screen problem. The apt-get update however was a massive update and I had to do something else to fix some errors on that as well. <see kanotix forums - xserver crashing thread>

I also ran update-scripts-kanotix.sh.
