Managed to get the Novatel card to work! I read the PCMCIA HOWTO guide and did some more searching. The config file /etc/pcmcia/config.opts can be edited to include or exclude ranges of ports and irq's. I then looked carefully at the information obtained from the "cardctl config" command. This command displayed the port range (0x03f8 - 0x03ff). I added this range to the config file, restarted the PCMCIA serves as before and in the log..."ttyS14 at I/O 0xa00 (irq = 10) is a 16550A"!!! From there it was follow the steps in your first post and seconds later I am on the Net.
