Hi raistlin,

I am assume you have another serial port in the notebook, since I see it complaining about keys pressed. In /etc/wvdial.conf, increase the novatel serial port (currently /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/ttyS1 to /dev/ttyS2) until you find a working one. I can't seem to find where the card is detected in your messages.

Laterz !

Hello

Well i'm starting with linux :D

--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Input/output error
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Input/output error
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Input/output error

this is what i get with the tail -f /var/log/messages

Hi raistlin,

run that tail command and then in a second console restart pcmcia (normally /etc/init.d/pcmcia restart)

As for the keypressed thing:

Sep 18 18:08:26 localhost kernel: [17182200.024000] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xb4 on isa0060/serio0).

That is what I was talking about - that appears to be serial0 aka /dev/ttyS0

:)

hya

Well i tried till ttyS10 all gave me input/output error except ttyS1 that gave me

--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS1: No such device
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS1: No such device
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS1: No such device

Ok - that was stupid of me ! I mis-read the model number.

Run this (with the card in - and the tail running)

modprobe usbserial vendor=0x1410 product=0x1410

You will see it register the comm ports. It should be /dev/tty/USB/0 or something like that. Take the first one and change the config to that. That should work :)

Hmmmm

reading through this thread i am posting too i was modifying wvdial.conf to:

[Dialer hsdpa]

Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 460800
Init2 = ATZ
Init3 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem

while testing it i got this response from my system:

linux-89sr:/etc # wvdial hsdpa
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid phone number.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid login name.
linux-89sr:/etc #

Hey peter,

Add the following to your /etc/wvdial.conf :

[Dialer Defaults]

Phone = *99***1#
Username = username
Password = password
Stupid Mode = 1
Dial Command = ATDT

And away you go !

reading through this thread i am posting too i was modifying wvdial.conf to:

[Dialer hsdpa]

Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 460800
Init2 = ATZ
Init3 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem

while testing it i got this response from my system:

linux-89sr:/etc # wvdial hsdpa
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid phone number.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid login name.
linux-89sr:/etc #

the linux i use is use is suse 10.1

now i stuck and wish for someone nice taking me through that dark forrest, :)

Did you compile the driver ?

Laterz !

I have an option nozomi, plugged into a cardbus to pci adapter card in my desktop machine. having done everything this tutorial says, I'm still sitting without an internet connection. any ideas pls. ubuntu dapper drake. when i do tail -f /var/log/messages and eject and reinsert the card, all I get is "cardbus card ejected" and "cardbus card inserted" yay.

Tazz_Tux,

first of all thank you, that did get me quit e bit further:

linux-89sr:/etc # wvdial hsdpa
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ

--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT*99***1#

--> Default route Ok.
--> warning, can't find address for `www.suse.de`
--> warning, address lookup does not work
--> Nameserver (DNS) failure, the connection may not work.
--> Connected... Press Ctrl-C to disconnect

the pcmai card also got bright blue, but still i can not get connected to the internet with my little firefox browser and had to stop the UMTS service before beeing able using my ethernet/dsl routing.

i checked for /dev/ttyUSB0 and could not found that entry in /dev, and tried to create with MAKEDEV, but that command is not recognized by my system (suse 10.1)

it feels like i am almost there, but i still need a little more help before i can enter the UMTS heaven :)

Peter
