Linux Mint 14 "Nadia" released!

I haven't gotten around to testing the RC, will install this tomorrow on the wife's PC, hopefully everything will go well and she will not murder me for messing up her desktop!

My wife found out that Mint 13 is LTS, so I won't e able to con her into doing an upgrade soon. I just finished installing Fedora again, with Cinamon, so too lazy to try this, maybe next year (January).

Finished downloading. Need to get a blank DVD. Everytime I tell myself ..."Right...I am going to keep this installing now for a minimum of 2 years" ... and then with the next release I just end up reinstalling "sigh"

I wish they made a better upgrade path, from 12-13 was a total flop for me and I had to reinstall everything.

Not bad at all, I like the subtle changes to Cinnamon, everything seems solid so far, no problems.

You can really see that Cinnamon is starting to shine as a window manager.

Forgot to mention this, it seems that there is no more "easy" way to install Nvidia drivers. The old dialog box where you could activate the drivers is no more, unless I missed something?

I ended up using a guide, cannot remember which one, but it should be simple to google.

If it's based on ubuntu then use the xorg edgers ppa.

You did indeed miss something - start Software Sources and look under the last tab: "Additional Drivers". Bit of a counter-intuitive place to put it, but there you go. ;)

Installed it and I rather like it. Not a earth shattering difference from 13....but this is the case with most new releases I guess...well for the average user like me anyway.

Two things that I did notice though

1. They have done a boot screen now....but because I boot from a SSD, my laptop boots too quick and I just get like a milisecond glimpse at it :-)
2. When I used to right click on a video file I could see in the properties the kind of codec used etc etc. This is no longer the case with 14. I would like that to be brought back.

Install a package "mediainfo-gui". Then in your file manager, right click on file > Open With > Other Application > Mediainfo
It's a once off thing, after that it will remember the app for an easier 'open with'. It's a pretty cool app that will tell you anything about your selected media that you want to know.

Cool. Will do it tonight. :-)

Thank you
