Linux Mint 18 released

I'm confused,i know there are many flavors of mint,
What is cinnamon based on?

Cinnamon is the desktop environment...you can get it with either Mint flavour (Debian or Ubuntu based). Cinnamon started off as Gnome.

Vinnige-r Fanie...we even started the sentence the same (obvious) way :)

technically if you load it on ubuntu... you've created linux mint! :D
Learned something here, as I loved cinnamon as its most like windows 7

So how does one actually do it? Sudo get on cinnamon?
Or does one recompile a custom version?
Fascinating stuff Linux with its possibilities

I am subscribing I learn alot about Linux when I don't ask questions. Continue.

No clue. That's a little beyond my level of linux-geek.

please don't feel good about a thoron endorsement :(
Why not? I mean this is how I learn, by asking questions!
I was taught to ask as many questions as possible as a show of interest.
Many times I don't ask enough only to wish I knew about something later on that becomes apparent.
I know people get annoyed, but if you don't ask, simple fact is you won't know.

LOL don't worry... ask away, and I want to know as well... I was just having a go at Th[-]m[/-]oron - as you do ;)

I understand, so what is the best for ease of use most like windows?
Cinnamon? Or KDE?
They're both the same really. You get the taskbar and the start menu on the lower left like XP/7/10. KDE just got more customization and the Plasma theme aka Aero of Windows 7 that everybody is missing. Also there's great KDE apps like Dolphin file manager, k3b, Amarok, ktorrent, Krita etc. It uses a bit more resources prolly.

Which one reads NTFS systems natively?
Cinnamon or KDE? Or has that requirement fallen away now?

Also which comes with vlc/Firefox preloaded?
