Introduction to Linux Mint 8:

The 8th release of Linux Mint comes with numerous bug fixes and a lot of improvements. In particular Linux Mint 8 comes with support for OEM installs, a brand new Upload Manager, the menu now allows you to configure custom places, the update manager now lets you define packages for which you don’t want to receive updates, the software manager now features multiple installation/removal of software and many of the tools’ graphical interfaces were enhanced.

This is just a summary of the new features coming with Linux Mint 8. For a complete overview of the new features, please read:

I wish Canonical would port some of these features to Ubuntu....

Yea me too, think I will download it and give it a go. been looking for something new to try, and don't want anything too different from ubuntu.. i understand how stuff works on ubuntu, so it shouldn't be too difficult for me to get up and running.

Thanks for the local link.

Finally! I have managed to install it on both my machines. The newer one was not a problem, but the older one (with an old graphics card) was a mission! I had to create an xorg.conf....

It was also my first encounter with Grub2. The older machine already had Fedora 12 installed on sdb, but the installer didn't pick it up. Luckily, I managed to figure out how to add a custom menu entry and set the default timeout. I had to edit /etc/grub.d/40_custom, /etc/default/grub and then run update-grub...

I also got apt-cacher-ng to work, so I'll save a lot of bandwidth when it comes to updating the "client".

So far, so good! :)
