Please someone - just to settle an argument: does one pronounce "linux" as in "wine" or "linux" as in "win"?

Linus is pronounced Lin and not Line. But I still call it Line-ux

Yeah, it is supposed to be "lin-ix", but it is a bit of South Africanism leading to it being called "line-ux" (kinda like "day-ta" versus "daa-ta").

I say "line-ux", but I am attempting to start saying "lin-ix" in my quest to remove all South Africanisms from my vocabulary (take that, Lancelot_SA) :D

I've always called in Lin-ix not Line-ix and don't really know of anyone that calls it Line-ix.

Oh goodness...to think I've been calling it the wrong thing all these years :O

It is pronounced the way that you feel comfortable (as long as it's recognisable). Linus Torvalds, being Finnish, pronounces it "Lee-nukks", but has stated that there's no rule to it.

nuff sed

I don't mind the now "normal" LINE UX, but if I have to hear one more time the word LINE UX repeated to me as if I am a stunted person with a snapped synaptic nerve when I say LEE-NUX the way Linus Torvald's says it, I will give live birth to flesh eating humming birds! :D

I bet Linus Torvalds changes his pronunciation every couple of years just to mess with people...
