The theory behind liquid detergent is it dissolves better with water. The downside is most liquid ones are for warm/hot water wash only and will leave behind a black gunk if you wash in cold water.

Another factor overlooked is the actual machine. Last year we replaced our 10yr old machine with a newer model and that made a big difference.

I started to use a biodegradable liquid detergent in my dishwasher. Use much less, so it costs less and the stuff is as clean as with powder which is fairly caustic (ate some patterns off cups and glasses)

What about those green balls they sell at Makro, etc? Said to last 200 washes and not use any detergent!

I read somewhere that what actually cleans your clothes is the action of the water through the fabric (unless there are greasy stains, presumbly). My guess is that this is why those balls seem to work so well.

Personally I prefer using very little detergent (and no commercial softener) as my skin is too sensitive to most of that crap.

I find the liquid does not leave a white residue on my clothes like some powders did. So works for me.

Look around for a brand called Woolite, comes in 750ml bottle, same as Skip and Omo, but is almost half the price.

I bought the OMO liquid. It's okay except that my machine is a dumbass. 1 hour for a "quick wash"?! And then it started walking away during the spin cycle.

I prefer the old Skip and Omo powders for washing, clothes come clean and smells fresh. I found gym clothes and socks just never smells fresh with the liquid stuff. If you would like liquid washing "powder" I can say Earthsap is great. You get it at health shops and pick a pay sells it.

WARNING, thread necro via Googil

The last bag of Omo auto powder I bought has a really bad chemical smell to it that takes a long time to leave the clothes, I am now considering other options including the liquid option.

Abzo probably means he was toooooo much of a lazy ass, and he did not adjust the feet that balances the machine....
