Is there anyone here who dabbles in this any deeper than a casual 1 flash unit attempt?
Curious as to what lights you use?
Einstein E640 seems to be pretty popular specs otherwise the multi speedlite option to get the short flash duration required.

This is quite interesting if you haven't seen it before

A plan begins to unfold - unfortunately my stuff has only arrived in time for me to have to go & do some real work.
Jury rigged for now

Plenty of learning curve ahead but a little bit of headway...

Thanks for the compliments, think maybe i need to close the aperture some more, was F4.5 to stay on iso 100

Nice shot there ^^^ and really love the crispness of the shoot.

Nice shot.. looks like you need that stand set-up you have to get the drops falling and colliding... can't do that by hand ...

Hi Krono yep, needs something steadier than handheld or you just rip thru a ton of actuations achieving little.
What i'm using you can control the soleniod(drop size/drop frequency/camera shutter delay via software to a controller(Cognisys Stophot). The sensor on the lower arm is meant to control the flashes but i'm not using it as i'm using a wireless trigger on the cam rather than wired atm,I had read of ghosting problems but i'm happy enough with wireless so far.

Theres also differant package to what i got sold in the UK but i wasn't too keen on the repeat-ability with the dial setup.
SplashArt

Theres also CameraAxe

& the TimeMachine

Or i guess one could try with some tubing mounted above with a hand valve to control the drops, depends how much patience you got i guess :)

These shots are D5200 & Nikon 105mm/f2.8 Macro lens.

Why DOF is a struggle at <F20 - results in plenty throwaways

F29 seems to cover the differant planes ok

F36 again - focus/DOF ok - but the struggle for light becomes the issue unless ISO is raised, juggling act:)

Ah! So people cheat with the lightning photos and CameraAxe ;)

Great shots btw!

EDIT : The more I read about CameraAxe, the more I want one ...
