Liquid Photography

Also from last night - thought the reflection in this one was pretty cool

Ja those ones came out very nice. Last one is the nicest IMHO because there is quite a bit going on.

EDIT: what lens were you using for these..?

Not nearly as nice as yours, but I tried. How do you control the frequency of the drops?

Nikon 105mm f2.8 micro/macro

Using a stopshot timer box which is hooked up to my laptop to change the parameters.....even like that its never bam bam bam tho.
Your pretty close there with both those images...probably 10-20milli secs to early with the shutter!

Grote in addition to the ones i know about that i linked on the previous page there is also this one..don't know nothing much about it but here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pylin/high-speed-water-drop-photography-kit

Must be legit, i've seen that Corrie is using one of these lately

Edit: Heres a more recent link in regard that one

Thanks
Apoc184 also gave me some great reading material a while ago (also of Corrie White). I like the setup, but don't really want to fork out R2k for the drop system. I was hoping you had a cheap-n-nasty effective way of controlling the drops. At this point in time, I use a ruler with a hole in it in which I put a syringe. I block the syringe hole somewhat on the inside to create drops instead of a running stream of water. But this is extremely inconsistent since the frequency varies upon the amount of water/fluid in the syringe. So every pic I try to take is heavily reliant on my timing (which would vary based on the frequency of the drops obviously)

Yeah i know what your talking about - maybe try increasing the size of the water reservoir larger than what a syringe will hold.
One of those squeeze sauce bottles with tubing running to the syringe....
Like so - http://www.flickr.com/photos/leondafonte/11703182995/
You'll still get the same issue but probably not so frequent change.

I picked up a micro tap from the irrigation shop next to our office along with a small flexible plastic pipe to fit it.

I then connected the tap and pipe onto a 2lt coke bottle (drilled a small hole in the cap and shoved the pipe in there tight) and hung it up above my pool of water. The frequency control is pretty damn good if you take into account that the whole setup cost about R15.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!
I will investigate this. Thanks

i surrendered to buying something after i seen how many actuations i went thru playing with the kitchen tap..:)
Still chow thru a bunch tho...don't think i'd like to try this with film

There is the micro tap I mentioned.

Cheap alternative just to try stuff out and see if you like the results. Then you can spend the millions that Mr Tun@ does :p :D

I like the option which includes the free box of matches... :p

Haha I am motivated to try this again, I did this a while ago no triggers just my macro flash and two plastic bags on the flah heads for the colours... I used a drip used in hospitals and tried to time the drops... think I must try it again with all the advice on here... would first need a new tripod left mine on a train....

So anybody ever try this again?

Can't believe it has been 8 years since I last tried this.

But I finally have a decent macro lens available so would like to try again. Last time I was using a standard 55-200mm kit lens.

I'll probably still go full manual mode again. Can't justify the cost of a drip kit like @Tun@ has.

Just a reminder. This was my best attempt last time around.
