After some digging I saw that my issues on the WSTB (Stellenbosch) exchange started on the 3rd of October, which was around the time Telkom did the 384kbps upgrades to 1Mbps.

See my post here in the MWEB Uncapped Feedback - P2 thread for more details.

My issue is that it is mostly during office hours, but it also extends a couple of hours later and sometimes over the weekends too! I think I should get all my friends, neighbours and family to report this fault.

I'm not sure what the upgrades entailed for Telkom, but it seems to me like they only decreased the price on the 1Mbps accounts. It's like now suddenly allowing 3x more people on our highways, and lifting the speed limit from 120km/h to 250km/h without adding more lanes OR getting the roads & cars in good conditions before doing the adjustments.
And to make matters worse, they're now trialing 40Mbps connections (luckily not in my area yet)...

Hi guys,
I was wondering if it would make any difference if I was on a Telkom business line instead of a residential line? Do they perhaps reserve some bandwidth for business users?

I'm in Rooihuiskraal North/Wierdapark and after hours have majorly congested exchange with pings of close to 1000 and my 2mb line can only reach 0.3mb/s.

Knersus, I highly doubt that they'll have a different exchange or reserved bandwidth for business ADSL users.

The only way you can get past the congested exchange issue with Telkom is to get a leased line OR to move to another location...

I have the exact same issue in Potchefstroom. Been fighting with telkom for the last week, as they keep saying there is nothing wrong.... Paying for 4Mbps, getting 1Mbps during office hours. Pings are still good, no issue there, Upload speeds are also good. Download speeds just take a beating in office hours. Seems they are too incompetent to realize there is actually an issue.

I live close to a few businesses, so I can imagine that this is why it is so slow during office hours. It just frustrates me when they tell me that 640kbps is an acceptable speed. So I'm paying for 4Mbps, but it is acceptable to keep charging me 4Mbps instead of the 1Mbps that I am actually receiving.

MWEB has now recreated my port and reauthed my account and I don't see any change after restarting my modem.

My download/upload speeds are still good, but my latency is terrible for gaming: 100ms vs the usual 10ms

Hmm bummer... I would be willing to pay more to get rid of the problem, but moving and leased lines is a whole nother ball game.

I stay in Wilgeheuwel JHB and since the 2mb upgrades my line has become useless. In the day I get ok speed and ping but from 7pm onwards I may as well use a 56k dial up modem. 1000+ ping. Must be a !@$!%^%~! congested exchange. Im seriously considering canceling my adsl as it is useless when i need it

I can confirm I'm seeing the same: Wilge_last_864000.jpg

Since beginning October, the exchange in Hennopspark, in Centurion, Pretoria seems very congested also.

I can also confirm that TNHP(Hennopspark) is congested.

HI guys,

Seems like the crawford exchange 021-697/696 is also getting far more congested as of late, nearly every night around 1900
View attachment 24694

Not all the DSLAMS in that Exchange though. I've been suffering with 500 - 900+ms every night from 18:00 onwards and every weekend, yet my dad who stays one road down is still getting 6ms! My neighbour is getting 100ms.
This started Oct 6th and has been fine during the day until today. Now I'm getting 100ms+ during the day as well.

My exchange TRHK02 (Rooihuiskraal) can be added to the list. Pings of about 600-800 after 18:00 in the evenings, for about the last 3 weeks.

For the last couple of months, 011-706-XXX Bryanston (RBRY) has been joining the congested club. Now that I've found this thread, I'll try to post some stats, but the subjective experience is all too familiar.
