I have been wondering what web hosts members of this forum recomend - I have used two:

- www.sahost.co.za they don't give you alot of space for your money bu they do support asp, frontpage etc...

- www.100webspace.com they have a very nice free package with FrontPage but unfortunatly no asp

All that I ask is that you try out a Mac - kilps

Stay local - try www.dataspace.co.za

Must say that I have been with 100webspace for a while and they are very good. Support was awesome.

I'm currently hosting two sites at siteground.com . Excellent service to date. I also tried out sultanhost.com, but I've only had bad service from them. Cancelled all my hosting within the first two months.

I'm currently hosting sites with www.portland.co.uk, but I'm not happy with them, had problems with their response to queries time, mostly they don't respond to emails. Recently, their automated processes seem to have been bypassed by cumbersome manual processes, I think bcos the auto stuff needs a developer to maintain, and I suspect they have lost resources. A lot of the stuff on their site doesn't appear to have been updated since 2002. Really don't know what's going on there. But don't take my word for it, http://portal.portland.co.uk/forum/.

I have also used http://uk2.net in the past, I was disgusted with their mail server downtime, extremely high prices, and sentech like promises of delivering basic things like cgi, php, mysql etc. They had so many complaints and customers jumping ship, and ex-customers telling potentials to use the competition that they discontinued their own forums, you can only find traces on their cyborg2 forum: http://forums.cyborg2.com.

As far as asp goes, I prefer to use pre-generated xhtml and provide interactivity via script and css. Nothing wrong with asp as such, just that asp is not responsive enough via a dial-up connection, which is why iBurst is rocks for me...speedwobble...

www.hellkom.co.za - they list all the top SA hosting firms.

I use Hetzner - very happy with them - got reseller pricing pretty easily as I host about 10 sites at the moment = significant saving

First off why does not someone mention afrihost.com, since they host this great site.

Secondly I must agree with the people posting about IDWS/Altonet (http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=158254)....STAY AWAY!!

Hetzner and Storm (www.storm.co.za) are both very good. Storm I like because they have a Jo'Burg office, which is a big plus. Hetzner, while being CT based do offer international hosting which is great for some sites.
