List your lenses

I'm regularly tempted by the idea of getting proper macro lens but as it would be more for play than anything else it's lowish on the list.

In the meantime I'll make do with my 50mm and a couple elastic bands :o

nikkor calls their macro lens "micro" so perhaps that is where he got the micro from

@ drunkard, do a little research on the nikkor 105 micro before you purchase it a lot of macro users tend to prefer the sigma 105 over the nikkor 105. users say the sigma 105 is sharper than the nikkor 105. plus think of the money you will save buying the sigma which is half the price of the nikkor.

Yes, Nikon's macro, micro.

I've had a lot of fun lately shooting plants and insects with my 200, so i think I'll enjoy the macro. I'll look at the Sigma, but I know I can buy the Nikon without thinking, they don't lose value and they never suck.

I just can't bring myself to pay SA prices when I see what the kit goes for on the high street in NY. I was lucky with the rest of the kit, got it from pro digital before they closed down. (Or got closed down by Nikon and Canon for pricing their products competatively?)

I should go see the big apple. Do some shopping :)
 
you do know that b & h photo out of ny ships here and that the shipping cost aren't too bad? even with shipping and what not you are still going to get a bargain with them over s.a. prices.

I'm the only one here who has tested those side-by-side
70-200 = sharper at corners for full frame
on crop cam = same thing:
70-200 little bit sharper, wide open
70-300 IS has IS & more range
one just has to pick the one for the camera and type of shooting
if you want the best of both worlds, get the 70-200 IS
if you're doing indoor sports, get the 70-200 f2.8

use your kit lens, and then decide whether you need it
for me it's not a very useful lens on a crop factor cam

I've got a great deal of my equipment from BH -
some couriered some hand carried but always at a huge savings from SA prices.
 
I'd happily buy from them again but the R/$ rate is quite ridiculous. I won't be saving much for what I want to buy.
 
I got the kit lens, the nifty-fifty (my absolute favorite lens) and a Sigma 18-200mm OS for the Canon 400D
 
I can't wait to get the nify fifty, purely because everyone keeps raving about it. The other one I want is the 100mm f2.8 macro and the 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM.

Might go pick one up on Saturday.

EDIT: Damn I'm tired, had to fly to Jhb. at 5:45 this morning for a few days, got up at 3am... now there's an emergency at work and I have to fly back to Cpt. immediately... WTF...then another 5:45 flight :(

I haven't bought it yet but which one are you referring to? I'm getting all lenses either from orms or sacamera. The 50mm f1.8 is bloody cheap - R1300 more or less for a f1.8. That's a pretty darn good deal.

No....., maybe its just me.
In general my pictures are sharper.
Once I know my lens , I can place where I want my depth of field to be.
I have grown up with manual focus lenses and so far autofocus has always been a disappointment.

Me too. But these dinky little view finders combined with deteriorating eye sight is forcing me to become more dependent on auto focus. :(

You're talking about a macro lens, which is a fixed focal length. The IQ doesn't change as you focus. The people that dis Sigma lenses are normally referring to zoom lenses.

Nice to see another user of the Sigma 50-500 lens. Quite something to get used to, zooming from 50 to 500mm in half a turn! Only schlep is that the lens turns counter-clockwise (my other Nikkor goes clockwise) and its WEIGHT!
