Correct and this raises one of the potential stumbling blocks - Telkom's alleged Access Line Deficit. If proven it could push up the price of line rental in future, regardless who you rent it from.

I'm jumping on the first FTTH provider that comes along can't wait to move away from copper.
 
Absolutely. Would Fibre (instead of copper) result in better attenuation and SNR margins? Anyone?
Whether you use fiber or copper, there will be a loss in signal strength as the length of the cable increases,
*However, the attenuation in an optical fiber is virtually flat up until very high frequencies.
And fiber can retain a higher bandwidth over greater distances than comparable copper cabling.
