So I am busy relocating and the plastic "cap" (the white part that faces the dish) on my LNB was quite brittle and did not survive a minor collision with a less-than-forgiving wall.

So without this cap, is it broken? Am I SOL?

Even if it still works, I would replace it if it happened to me.

When water goes inside, it will be dead... If you can seal it, you can probably save it. New ones are cheap though.

Ditto - except I am not quite prepared to commit more money to monochoice if a real competitor is around the corner, hence my interest in "limping" the last 10 yards.

Thanks all for info - guy at MC centre agrees.
