Local Android Market details

I don't like the sound of this: "Paid applications will not be available due to a lack of a “vetting authority regarding the content that gets uploaded to the market place” said Gohre."

Will we in SA be stuck with lower quality freebies only?

Yes for now, until Google iron out the bugs in transferring funds and vetting content in SA.
 
Okay so 8 August is the target date for the launch of a limited Android Store offering the free software only, the full version coming later (unknown date) ... starting with a download site that will be converted to a shop later.
 
I was hoping we get the real thing soon (like iTunes Store) and not just a special link to a download site.
 
No, it's definitely not that dire.

What we will be receiving is the FULL Android Market. For the time being it will be limited to free apps, the number of which runs into the thousands. Additionally we'll also have access to the Leaf Open Market.

This is now a download site, this is the international Android Market which Google created for 3rd party devs.
 
Sense UI

Here's a question? Since we're getting a new ROM from HTC, do you think it will include the new Sense UI, because that would be really awesome? :cool:

Anyway this vetting or lack thereof doesn't mean we shouldn't have access to paid apps from other countries. I mean it's obviously vetted when uploaded in that country. I seriously don't understand how this works. :confused:
 
My question is really more about the fact that Dream users are still stuck on V1.1 of Android. Would this ROM be a V1.5 update at the same time, or is it merely the same V1.1 ROM with Android Market added back. Because I will really be peeved to be stuck with 1.1 still. It's just so backwards to still be stuck with it. The Sense UI would be awesome.

So, it's a new rom now and then another new rom when leaf releases the Hero rom for the Magic??

I don't think they're going to make the Hero ROM for the Magic. I read somewhere that the Magic and Dream won't be retrofitted with Sense UI

I might be mistaken, but I am sure I read somewhere that leaf will make a Hero ROM available for the magic. Fingers crossed

Let's hope. I'm not sure I like Sense UI, but the other integrations look very nice
