I just set up an FTP server on my laptop using FileZilla. It's connected using local only ADSL and I would like to do some file sharing. If anyone would like to browse or upload something cool, please first check if I am online here:

I'm sure you are only sharing legal content right?

Otherwise, you might make a few people upset and they might take offense that you're sharing their intellectual property.

Since you're hosting your FTP server from a DSL line, I'm assuming that it's at your house/work.

If you've got some contraband on your server you're pretty much f*#ked if the powers that be find out.

Please guys. When you upload stuff, post a link here or on my site letting me know what it is. Or you can upload a note with the same name except for .txt at the end.

Thanks.

Why not just use the local mirrors for these things rather than trying to host something on your laptop..

The mirrors are up permanently and are usually sitting directly on the backbone networks

This is just an experiment. Let me play.

You also know that this is not 'local' as you may think. I have access to your FTP server from the UK. Best not let our friends in China know that this service is available for them to use.

Interesting...

If you ping fixpc.dyndns.biz what IP comes up?

OK all speed limits have bee removed, please let me know what kind of transfer rate you get.

Thanks :)

I'm not going to stop you from playing.. but it seems like a pointless experiment thats going to see you wasting bandwidth after no good cause really...

yeah I connected. Originally gave me too many from same IP error, but conmnected shortly thereafter. Thanks.

Who said it bothers me?

I'm just trying to figure out the rationale behind wasting R70.....

Yeah, sorry about that. I decided to limit it to one connection per IP, I know some FTP clients complain.

Did you try to download or upload something yet? I'm really curious to know what kind of speed you get, if resuming works, etc.

I'm uncertain as to the rationale behind much of what I do. If you figure it out please let me know. I'm willing to chalk it off to curiosity, possibly the desire to learn, though I'm also uncertain of this as yet.

I started uploading something but the speed was really bad so I disconnected. I'm on 4Mbps ADSL.
