Local Only 3G / HSDPA Access

@IC

I meant using Neotel's metro ethernet or even Telkom's own new Metro Ethernet network...

Oh well. Guess we wait a little longer then...

Vodacom and MTN and CellC all have the right to lay their own network infrastructure [self provisioning], and Vodacom and MTN are in fact putting fibre optic cabling into the ground.

It doesn't make sense to me, for Vodacom and MTN, to jump from Telkodemonopolies' bottomless frying pan into Neotel's smoldering coals, when both Vodacom and MTN are in direct competition with both Telkodemonopolies and Neotel, as well as with one another, IOW why rent new capacity from a competitor whilst trying to self provision one's own capacity...

PS: I've updated my previous post.

At this stage we'll probably take bandwidth from whomever can supply it....

As ic stated above, the first fiber rings will be in the major metro centers, so the links to the base stations will be Diginet for quite a while still.

Ok, but surely that's only if it would take Vodacom|DFA much longer to self provision the same amount of [local] bandwidth for a particular area, i.e. as a last resort giving preference to self provisioned [local] bandwidth?
Yup, obviously we'll use our own network wherever possible, but the various networks won't have exactly the same footprint. And with such a massive backlog, beggars can't be choosers....
