Local Only accounts

Ja, IS all the way. I'm on SAIX (for simplicity, I'm with Axxess for international; just keeping to 1 ISP !), and they charge R20 per gig, with no type of sliding scale as the number of gigs in the package increases.

For example, currently to get 30GB local on SAIX, I would need to pay my ISP R599 pm and not have access to the IS news server (which I have never used, due to being on SAIX) whereas I could get a 30GB local account on IS from OpenWeb for R121 pm. Hmmm...

However, as far as I know, IS local-only packages do not come with 1 GB increments and start at 10GB for R70 (plus minus). At the moment the cheapest for me is to get 1GB for R19 pm from Axxess (I don't download much, just to access varsity site, local ftp's for small programs etc.)

So it depends on intended use really. Small usage (IE 1GB maybe 2GB) take SAIX, any larger usage take IS. Also, for people requiring small amounts of data per month, they will most likely not need to make use of the IS news server :)

IS ftw.

Cost, Usability, Value..

and cause you not Supporting Telkom.

Is ownz the local market

10 gig for 70 bucks aint bad but 139 for 40 gigs is even better

go openweb

love u long time

Thanks for the heads up. ;)

Speaking of the IS News server... any good utils/readers out there? Any good groups? Been years since I've browsed public NNTP.

EDIT: I found the newshost.za.net link, and am reading about the NZB stuffs.
