Local only ADSL accounts

Certainly.

Simply add the international bandwidth costs to the equation. ADSL is not profitable for anyone except Telkom.

Edit: I don't think that MrBEEP is making a loss on ADSL. I think that IS is potentially making the loss. But then they would not operate. So there is a catch somewhere... Something that it missing...

Mr.Beep obviously only resell IS accounts. If somebody is making a loss it would be IS, not Mr.Beep. And AFAIK he resells them as cheap as possible.

The catch comes in with connection ratios. IN simple terms, a 100 people with 1024k connections arent all going to be online, maxing out their lines at the same time.

Yip. If only telkom would release their contention ratios! :mad:
I think if IS knew their contention ratios they could probably up theirs a little as well, reducing costs to them... But, as always, what are the chances of telkom doing that?
 
I know that there are a LOT of us out there maxing out our lines all of the time...

BUT, I know of plenty of people who only do a small percentage of their cap each month!!!

Some of them do as little as 100 MB a month... most of them don't even reach 1 GB !!!! This is where the ISP's make their money!!!

No ISP runs at a loss.

No one stays in business if there are no profits.

But lets face it, ISP's have it tough (for now).

LOCAL SHOULD BE FREE LIKE IN ALL THE CIVILIZED COUNTRIES. (but I said civilized countries)
 
Let's think about it this way, in most countries in the world, LOCAL CALLS are free! Telkom charges ALOT of money for their local calls, so why should they not charge for Local Bandwidth? Its all about the money baby! But then, if I was a monopoly, I would do the same! I would have NO competitors, so I set the standard!

MrBEEP resells for IS (correct?). If so, he buys x Packages, adds y% to each and makes z% profit. Simple, really.

It is IS, buying from Telkom, that may or may not make a profit. But then again, most IS clients hardly use any bandwidth and probably have never even heard of a CAP.
