Local Torrents

I've made my point(s) and you seem to have understood them, as you have stopped attacking your original issue (with local invite torrent sites).

But it's their site, they're free to operate it in whichever way they wish.

If you feel differently then you're more than welcome to start your own site according to your rules :)
 
To host a website locally is a JOKE! Im not paying like R400 for 1GB of bandwidth [local] where I can pay $0.99 with my paypal account and buy hosting from the US where you get unlimited bandwidth and 1TB of space

Why are people still wanting to get invites to torrent sites?

Download Grabit, setup the newserver accordingly and use news servers!!!!!!!!
You'll get stuff faster than the people who use torrents do anyways!

Just a few games don't appear on newshost that does on torrents and besides, new stuff always comes on newshost first anyways!

Yes, I agree with you there. The way most of the mods/admins/sysops act on most of the local torrent sites are like that.
How ever there is one local torrent site which I know of where the people with higher user ranks dont act like that and everyone gets along nicely and they accept you as humans and they accept the fact that humans make mistakes as well ;)

Yes, like you stated not many people in SA will fulfil/maintain an appropriate ratio. Also having a ratio system can make it really difficult for people on slower lines, like a 384K line. Thats why a point system would work out better and easier for most South Africans. ;) :)

Isn't this whole ratio system a little like a bank account?

You need to have money in your account (uploads) before you can withdraw some cash (download) to spend it on whatever you want.

- If you have more deposits than withdrawals, your bank manager is happy (high ratio) and lets you withdraw more money... and you may even become a "priority client" which has certain perks of its own!

- BUT, if you have more withdrawals than deposits, you are eventually going to go into overdraft, (low ratio) and your bank manager is going to get seriously pissed at you, especially if you can't pay it back!

Think of Investec Private Bank, you need to be a 'high nett worth individual' before you can apply for an account (invited) and even then they don't accept everyone. They need to ensure that the people they do accept are going to keep their ratios high. Otherwise, they get kick out...

Sorry, I just love analogies ... even though most of them are wrong... ;-)

i fiind local torrents are quite slow. i get better speed from the international torrents..
eg
i'm legend local was going @ 80k/sec ;(
but the international was going @ 390k/sec.. ;)
