Local WoW server a possibility?

They do not have the software to run it but they may run the emu. Blizz do not want their hosting software to leak and that is why I think they do not trust igame enough to give them the software?

The information in the article is confusing, they say they host about 20 000 players per server, but for them to open a server for us, we MUST have 40 000 players?
so they wont host 1 server until we have enough players to populate 2?

interesting
" additional instances cannot be launched at this time, please try again later"

maybe you need to support a battlegroup and not just 1 realm

The law of averages dictates that any 1 server won't have all 40000 people on there at any one stage, which means if 20k is the capacity of a server, to have it busy 24/7 would require 40k people.

The same as how contention ratios and proxy servers work in this country to "save" on bandwidth internationally by caching certain things.

SA wow population is smaller than any European country and they don't even all have servers. Sadly, don't think it'll happen.

My fellow Twilight's Hammer players are hoping for a GREEK realm soon as second best. Nerf greek chat in public channels!

Perhaps this will be a dream. I do agree though that it won't be that easy (well not fun anyway) to just drop and move leaving all our EU guildies and buddies behind. I'd love a solution that brings lower latencies but I also realise that this is SA.

More interesting though is what kind of staff would blizz employ if they had to open shop here (how many people, what job roles, etc.) I wonder what the job requirements would be to work as a GM (and how much would they pay!).

Most likely the same as the EU/US counterparts. Take a look at the job recruitment pages at Blizzard.com (I would provide a link, but its blocked)

Working as a GM might possibly spoil the game dontcha think? Having all that power during the day, none at night. It would be like being at work 100% of the time, only sometimes you are at a desk, other times you are in the lounge.

It may...but then again if you enjoy the game but you've just had enough playing then surely it's a sweet job to still keep in game. Plus unlike the private servers I doubt you're going to go around killing every NPC, one-shotting characters and spawning Illidan into stormwind (although some people deserve to be one shotted!). So you may have power but you won't be allowed to abuse it...except maybe on GM island if it actually exists on live servers.

Oh the fun I'd have with the gold sellers!

Just as a note about all the spam: Would be nice to actually prevent seeing any chat (like whispers, trade, general, etc.) from anyone below a user-defined value (like no chat from anyone below level 21).

I'm sure theres a mod for that :p

Well, just got back from my folks place. Using my notebook, with all the addons worked 100%

Unshaped Saix WA account in Dalaran running between 400ms and 500ms with no spikes at all.

Guess it is either my line or I need to upgrade to a faster connection.

My money is on the pipe size, not your line. 384k ftl
If you're not sharing a connection with more than 2 people or downloading/msn/browsing while you are playing then the lat is exactly the same on 384 and 4mb.
