Local WoW server a possibility?

As a successfully rehabilitated ex-WoW player, I can honestly say that I'd be the first to sign up again if they brought us a local server. But what has been said here about the population being a concern is 100% true. Unless they can get > 10k players on the realm, they are wasting their time. No one wants to play on a deserted realm with no economy.

And I think it's a bit naive to expect many of those 20k or so "illegitimate" players to move across to the official server. They aren't playing on the free servers because they are local, they are playing there because it's FREE, and that's not going to change.

I'm confident that iBurst could do a perfectly good job of hosting a server, as this has sweet FA to do with their wireless connectivity to the home, which is where the majority of the iBurst complaints lie. Besides, if this "investigation" achieves nothing else but bring it to Blizzard's attention that we could use a server, perhaps they would be more interested in striking a deal with SAIX or IS.

Make no mistake though, the ability to play on a server with < 100ms latency should be enough of a drawcard for EVERY South African to play on the local realm. Finally, some decent PvP!

What part of it will run on a fixed line network do you still not understand? Your wireless issues have absolutely nothing to do with how a local fixed-line WoW server will run, Mr Know-It-All.

Secondly, I'm still baffled as to why you keep harping on about price? If 7000 people that Blizzard know about are currently paying, why would they have an issue paying the same for a better service? Yet again, I don't think you know what's going on. Billing changes and whatnot are irrelevant as nothing in that department will change. The only thing that will change is that people will be able to select a locally-hosted realm from the list.

Thirdly, if you think those pings are "excellent," then clearly you have no idea what you're talking about  Go tell someone in the US or Europe that and you're be nominated for comedian of the year.

I'm done humouring you. I think we've established that a) you're stubborn, as you're continually attempting to prove yourself right when you've been proven wrong many a time and b) you have no idea what you're talking about whatsoever. From iBurst's network being completely wireless to pings up in the hundreds of ms apparently being excellent  Rather leave the technical talk to the professionals ;)

I'm continually amazed at how people think they're knowledgeable enough to preach to iGame whether or not they're capable when they know nothing about their proposal. Blizzard would not be considering it if it were a joke proposal.

What part of its iBurst running it don't YOU understand? He explained WHY he doesn't have faith in the system. Did you misread that part or do you choose not to so you can be "right". How does it feel being right mmm? Good? i hope so

I love forums

EDIT: And if this thing goes ahead, I foresee a lot of DK's....

Are you slow?

Obviously for the people in the states and europe those pings are pathetic, but for this country they are not bad. And I do not care if it will run on fixed network, i am pointing out the stability of the Iburst network as a WHOLE. As in there business practice, and there client support (which is pathetic).

If you read the post, you would have seen i stated people do not like paying that price, good service or bad service. R359 for two months is pretty steep for some people. And if billing wont change, people will still not play on local servers. Do a search on these forums and see how people complain about the cost of the service.

And i'm continuously amazed at how you love your precious IGame rubbish. Continuing living in your little deluded world.

Continue as you where Mr.Professional.

Blizzard will not just look at there infrastructure, but there entire business model and practice. A company as big as blizzard will not put one of there most popular games into a companies hands that have total disregard for there clients. I**** might snitch bandwidth from SAIX, but then saix should actually maintain this network, because if the GM's are anything like the people at I**** then blizzard will hurt :D

They require 40,000 subscriptions @ R160 before they'd set up a local server?
That's 6.4 mil a month!! Are they honestly saying they can't do if for less than that? Ridiculous.

Man you are a chop. I'm running COD at about a 40-70ms ping on iBurst WIRELESS. Haven't had any problems yet with the connection to the iGame servers.

If you get bad service, escalate. Don't just moan on a forum and try be a chop to everyone else that has a different point of view.

Community

Why not ask the players? Paying or not?

I'm not paying R160 per month, because I decided to rather sign up on the US servers and paid R140 last month, and R130 this month.

Why does iGame not take all these resources and money and start with a SA community for the WoW players. But also for the US realm players, because there are many.

All I will say, is WoW is NOT playable over Neotel from Centurion.

And i did escalate the service, i was on calls with them for weeks yes its resolved. No its not. Yes its resolved. No its not.

99% of the people on these forums aren't idiots. This forum is the last resort they try before bitching about stuff. Sentech and iBurst has pushed a lot of clientele away with their crappy support. Crappy is an understatement to come to think of it.

We're intelligent human beings. Your assumption for not trying their support lines is a feeble attempt to compare this site to hellopeter.com which it is not.

I'm glad the service works for you. And I wait for the day it doesn't anymore. Good luck with that.

Sorry, but I have a objection to paying R300 odd for a game and then still having to pay R160 every month or two to keep playing it. It would be different if it had a kick ass single player option and an even better multiplayer option, but from what i understand wow has no sp available.

Thats why I stick to the likes of NWN, NWN2, Guild Wars etc. where you buy the game and play online for free

Your understanding is wrong. You can solo most of the quests in WoW if you want but the best part of WoW is playing with a bunch of people you have never met from all over the world.

Paying R160 a month is really not bad since you don't have to spend money on any other games, ever again (until Blizzard releases the next MMORPG that is).

Its easier for someone to go and spend a grand on alcohol in one night.

I have tried those games. I prefer to pay the monthly fee to Blizzard for WoW. Thats my choice. I respect yours as well :)

They arnt saying they cant. They are saying they wont.

There are a lot of unqualified opinions flying around here. So here's mine :D

No one is forcing anybody to sign up to a local server, so there is no need to act as though you are being cornered against your will.

With that said, I do not understand where all the animosity is coming from?

For the record, iBurst and iGame operate separately. I will not comment on iBurst, but I can say without any doubt that iGame has one of SA's best technical teams.

Gametracker.com rates iGame's Alpha CoD4 server as the best in SA (excluding hardcore). Fact.

There have been a few valid points made however. For example, WoW is getting old and I do wonder if it is too late for something like this. However, I have spoken to iGame about this, and they are fully aware, and are already looking at Blizzard's next MMO. If they can do a good job on a WoW server for two years, then we will almost definitely get a local server next time around.

I'm in no way against the whole thing, I just think that people attacking the dude for his opinion because bad service in the past is unjustified. That is my opinion as well.

If iGame and iBurst is run seperately then kudos. to me it's still the same company and I don't really care how good your technical team is, you're just as good as management/customer service is and in the past (and now) management are usually the ones responsible for the entire company's reputation, and they usually **** it up.

That's besides the point.

I think the peering server would be best in a situation like this, and then when the next MMO does hit, with all the bandwidth upgrades we have already, we can definately be a hub for Africa so they can enjoy low latency MMO experience with our very own server
