Local WoW server a possibility?

From what I know we are 3rd on the list for a server and Russia is 2nd cant remember who is first in anycase I wouldnt move servers have made to many friends on the 1 I am on and am in a brilliant raiding guild so to come over and start from scratch or pay for a transfer no thanx

Thinking about it now this thread definately deserves to be in an RPG section of a forum, no matter how many times it dies it will merely be resurrected again...

On the topic though, Blizzard has three main franchises: Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft. All three games have been released in SA over the years and there are definately a lot of players who love the games. In all the years though that these three franchises have been running and available Blizzard has never deemed it necesary to give us our own servers, there is very little chance that it is going to happen now.

But the Russians already got one

/facepalm

Brilliant reply. Go troll somewhere else.

The question was asked because of this comment in the article:

The ball is in Blizzard’s court at the moment. While iGame’s local WoW initiative has been met with apprehension from the publisher, it has also enjoyed a degree of interest.

MyGaming has submitted a set of questions to Megarom, who has sent them to Blizzard to answer. Further details will be published when they become available.

Thanks for your reply BrianStephan.

Still holding thumbs for 1 they might decide to put 1 up because of Seacom landing and our line speeds increasing in October but its just specualtion at the moment.

Just a note, if they do announce a SA server at Blizzcon, it will probably take another 3-5 years before implementation :p

SA server would suck. I won't move from my current guild and friends.

SA peering server would be great.

It would be cool to at least get a battle.net server here that somehow connects with the international folk or something like that...would make the lack of LAN not so sucky - like I really need another client to help me connect to facebook :p

Anyway I don't think Blizzard gives a damn anyway because those that are loyal subscribers most likely won't move and leave their current guilds (unless they can come up with a clever way of letting us connect with local accounts but still play on EU realms)...however if they brought it here for a lower price I think they might actually attract a lot of new players. Ah well...I'll leave that (and hacking of battle.net to allow LAN play) to the others out there.

Come to think of it I've only been online in WoW about three times in the last three weeks...I think I'm starting to ween myself off it quite nicely actually (and I seem to be getting my normal life back too - now just to lose these "WoW" pounds!).

Latency is the real problem

I think the real problem is the latency and bandwidth. We'd all happily play on EU or US servers if it wasn't for the 500+ ms ping even worse, the occassional packet drops that sometimes causes your character's untimely death.
And how will character migration work?
If it was up to me I'd rather just improve the international connectivity to the official WOW servers - like a dedicated WOW traffic pipe. With SEACOM and all that shouldn't be too difficult or expensive right?

Not sure but a couple of months ago, I went to a pub, and a couple of guys there were talking about the recession and the impact it has on our country and that they all lost their jobs. So last night I went to the pub again and continued our conversation.

They didn't know WTF I was talking about...

Trying to figure out what exactly that has to do with the poster above you :p

same here... lol...

but anyway .. i believe it would be a waste...... infrastructure costs to the amount of players in s.a lets say 16k.... mmm would run at a loss

do we have to have this tread pop up every month or so ? Its speculation at most. No one has solid proof from Blizzard thats there is some thing in the pipe line . Kind like my dog chacein his tail he go's round and round, round and round

There is only one topic that pops up more than this one... I dare not speak the name of the unspoken registry patch. :D

It's an old topic. It's been discussed. It's ended. Yet, someone digs it up again and just posts their opinion.

Thinking this may be a new development (or one of those local wow server ads) I started reading. ... saw the date... and then subsequently posted the example of how ****ED UP IT IS TO DISCUSS SOMETHING THAT HAS LONG BEEN DEAD AS A TOPIC

It appears my predictions came true and NOTHING came of it...

but ..but posting or bumping old threads is awesome. Just like caps is cruise control for cool :P
