In order to point antennas it would be good to know where the 8ta towers are. How can I find out?

yes good question. Also how do you find out when your heita dongle is busy roaming? How do you stop this from happening, and how can I verify that roaming has been turned off succesfully

Yeah I would also like to know where the towers are. Last time I contacted social@8ta - a guy came out but didn't know where the tower is in my area.. To this day I am still waiting for a response..

Just post your proximate area and i am sure some one here will know
Like i know where mine is

Most of the vodacom towers in the telkom telephone exchanges have 8ta on them now

Thanks for all the advise. Point is I need the position of 8ta towers with the 3G installed as sold for the Promos. I've been looking for any in the Hartbeespoort area. I do get a very good connection, often over 6 mbps down and 3.5 up.
Suspect there's one near Pecanwood on the east side of the dam but are there any others? Anybody have co-ords?

Hi, can you elaborate? "8ta on Vodacom towers in the Telkom exchanges? How does that work? I'm aware that 8ta uses MTN to piggyback for their normal voice/data service.

well this is how it happened in the beginning Telkom owned car phone that was used to start Vodacom that is how Telkom ended up with 50% of vodacom that was sold last year . most of the car phone towers were in the grounds of Telkom exchanges which is still the case now Telkom have mounted their antennae on the towers that have space on their premises
Telkom have also put up more antennae

Thanks, makes sense. Now to find out which towers are actually on 8ta.
PS. Is that your finger "inside" the trigger guard?

I appreciate all the help and suggestions. However trial and error turning etc. is no substitute for knowing where the active towers are. Turning blindly can be very time-consuming as each increment requires settling time and measurements. Not knowing the approximate direction needed may require the antenna to be tried on all sides of the house, if no clear 360 line of sight is available.
I sometimes think that it's a State secret to tell customers where their Service is located, whatever for? You can be sure their competitors know anyway. So 8ta, out with it, where are they? If it's still a secret please PM me with the ones covering Harties.

Hi, thanks for the Link. Had a look but badly out in my area, both in position and content. They show one Voda and 20 MTN towers around our dam, nothing else. There is even one shown right on top of my house. Good idea hopefully it'll get right.

Thank you BBSA for the link, I downloaded it to my Galaxy Tab 8.9 and it worked perfectly. My nearest 8ta is me is a few blocks away, so I'm getting great speeds. Mast 65502 located near SARS, Hill Street, Ferndale, Randburg. :p

Mast 65502 located near SARS, Hill Street, Ferndale, Randburg. I'll be getting the 60Gig + 60 Gig this week, what a bargain! (paid R2999 to Cell C last year and speeds not so good for the past 3 months) :p Pity about the counter staff at Telkom, Sanlam Centre, Randburg. They need serious re-training.

What CellId are you getting? I picked up 1021x, 1013x and 1049x on my last trip past the dam. I found that the 8ta signal strength is never very strong. I think their beams are less focused than the other providers, especially with them not having so many towers.
