LogMeIn Hamachi, What's your experience?

Hi All,

I am currently looking at using LogMeIn Hamachi to setup VPN's from my various sites around the Southern African region and wanted to know if anyone here has had experience with it and what you think/thought?

At the moment we pay an ISP to setup and manage VPN's for us so that we can utilize "LAN Addresses" for our various sites even though they are passing through the web. I am hoping that i can link my client software to the server modules and run the systems like that using LogMeIn Hamachi. What do you think? Am i understanding the product correctly?
 
Have a look at Softether VPN and OpenVPN as free alternatives.

I have been using Soft Ether for a couple of months (since it was mentioned in another thread) and it is pretty good. Easy to set up and has a nice compression feature which seems to work well.
 
If configured correctly works really well. OpenVPN is great too as suggested by InvisibleJim
 
Soft Ether is pretty well documented and was quite straightforward to set up. OpenVPN I haven't set up for a while and although it is also well documented, it is a little more techie. There are however quite a few step-by-step guides and if you have limited networking knowledge, setting up Open VPN is quite a good learning exercise.

We used to use Hamachi for lanning back in the day, via the internet. Was a really great tool.

The free version went a bit backwards later as they encouraged buying it, but since then I've not had to use it anyways, so I'm unsure of how it is now.

Thanks InvisibleJim! I am pretty technically minded but nothing spectacular... Which would you recommend? I dont want anything too complicated as i need to implement this for the company and dont want to be stuck with it as it'll cripple the business if we're down for too long, should i not be able to make it all work...

Indeed! I used to use Hamachi to play Diablo II with my mates using that
 
Hamachi was great until Comodo VPN launched, now known as Comodo Unite. Personal solution in my opinion.
 
Take note:

It do not require to be registered as this is asked within the install.

When they moved the branding to Comodo Unite, you can use the same login on multiple devices. It is due to this reason I actually use it and naturally as a personal solution.

I only believe in hardware solution as corporate solution.
