...Zain Motala, a senior IT technician at Internet service provider SAOL, said most bandwidth theft occurred where people were careless with passwords and user names.

Senior Technician my arse.
I'm suscribed to saol.
They have this delightful page, where u can create an alias for your account.
So I created ZAiN@saol (my name) :)
Little did I know, it was taken.
Now I've all my saol mail forwarded to my gmail box. Soon I started noticing "in house" email, technical queries, some rude mouthed emails etc.
I recieved all his email. Was the most hilarious thing ever.
What makes it more interesting, this senior technician took well over a month to figure out he's email was being forwarded lol :D
And there was no way to delete the alias on the saol page until he did it over a month lol.

Love these Senior techs lol

Yup I know. just routed all his email to the deleted items, trust me he had alot of junk.
Wonder if it still works :D

I had an account with SAOL for 6 months and I also used to get someone else's emails, including some from his bank. I just stopped using the email account and eventually cancelled my SAOL account due to ****ty service.

I might hurt myself if I fall of my chair laughing. Must leave this thread immediately. AHAHA, oh no, its starting

Hi Guys

I wonder what your age group really is? No disrespect to you...

I would have thought that , no matter what the reason, if you were getting someone else's e-mail, you would certainly do the honorable thing and e-mail , lets say, [email protected] IMMEDIATELY letting them know about their error, rather then sit back and read all private e-mails , rude or otherwise.

Everyone is entitled to his or her privacy.

It takes little minds to amuse themselves at the expense of others.

We , at SAOL, are humble and honest, and we sincerely apologize for the mishap or what one would term, ****ty service.
Naturally, it would have been picked up sooner if it was brought to our attention. Our staff work very hard and I personally am glad that they do not open their own thread about customers and their mishaps :) Now, we would have a real field day. But, we are not like that.

I am also glad , that SAOL is important enough to be discussed about, as no advertising, is bad advertising.

Have a fabulous time guys and keep on talking about SAOL.

But this is BAD advertising.

Credit to you for actually coming on this forum and clearing things up.

I'm not with SAOL so I can't comment on how you guys interact with customers , I'm sure the other guys here will chip in. ;)

ah you got my email lol.
Lets see, Your Senior Technician has no manners...at all.
He swears way too much, and is arrogant as they come.
Its no wonder I never bothered emailing him.

Anyway, I have no problems with your service at all.
All queries were replied to instantly :)
I have no gripes with the comapany, just with some of your staffs attitude.
I can commend your'll on your service, and have suggested SAOL to members on this board as a viable alternative.
Our gripe isn't with the company, its with rude and arrogant staff, certainly not humble in any sense of the word.

Just for the record. The first time I checked the account it had the guys emails in it. I thought it must just be a one time mistake, so I deleted them without reading them. The next time I checked there where more, that was the last time I checked the account.

The bad service was in relation to a diffrent matter wich I emailed SAOL about on several occasions. The only time someone actualy tryed to help was after I canceled my account.

As for any advertising not been bad advertising .... To anyone looking for an ISP, choose WebAfrica, I have been using them for for a while now and have had no problems.

Hi

Thanks for the kind words. It is a pity that the complaints were not brought to Management level, at least I , among others would have been able to clear the air, and deal with the problem at hand.

I would recommend that, in future, all problems / Complaints , get directed to [email protected] . They are viewed by the Directors and Management of SAOL and I can assure you that we will investigate your query.

"No advertising , is bad advertising?....well this is a proverb to mean otherwise :)

Anyways, If you want to choose an ISP, I would say, call a couple of ISP's up, check their knowledge on their products, try and see how well they understand you and your needs. See if they are willing to sell you what you need as apposed to what you might think you want. See if they are open with all terms and that they explain what will be important for you to know. Check the turn around time, and see if the rates are competitive and check to see that there are no fine print to suggest otherwise from what you were sold.

All ISP's are out to grow their business one way or the other.....
And whether the ISP you choose is Web Africa, or SAOL, it does not matter.

What matters , is that you have chosen a company , YOU believe in and a company you feel comfortable with.

Happy Surfing...
Thank you
Neethi

I was with SAOL, had a problem with my account on SAOL side, the accounts department pretty much told me that it was just to bad, things were done a certain way even if they messed up ...
So I am no longer with SAOL, and I guess its just to bad.

Hi Gremlin

I am sorry you have had a bad experience. We have procedures that we follow, and unfortunately, some clients request service and do not pay. Due to the amount of default payers, and fraudulent accounts, we are forced to institute procedures. If you were not happy with staff, the query can easily be sent to the Directors of SAOL, and they will assist.

We are pretty flexible , within our procedures, which in turn , do protect the client.

Thank you for your valued feedback.

Been with a few ISPs on ADSL. So far, SAOL has given me the best service. Been with them about a year and probably will stay there. Fortunately I haven't needed to interact with any of their technicians, so cannot comment on that.

Agreed,i'm with SAOL too, never had any problems for 2 year so i don't ever need support.Pitty,i'll have to jump ship next month solely because of price.Due too the nature of SA broadband all i need is good prices...for now.

Other ISP's also have their problems.I have a local account with Openweb, generally satisfied but not overwhelmed with their service, like many here.Emails sometimes don't get thru(according to them),deposit slips faxed "were not faxed sometimes",endless problems with phone system sometimes. Now "sometimes" just get a litlle too many for my liking.

Point is no ISP is all good or all bad...SAOL you might not have the best prices but i find nothing wrong with your service.Openweb's prices for IS i like but not really their service...too many problems with the one thing an online company should not have problems with...comunication.

...my longest post so far :D
