ok, I want some feed back from others.

What is it with some parents (dads specifically) that insists that lil girls must have long hair??

lil girl I'm looking after will be 2 in sep. Her dad insists she must have long hair. But every day is such a struggle with the hair. The mom just sends the brush, elastics and clips to school so that I can do her hair.

I don't mind at all. But even though I work gentle with her, she always cries.

Why can't they just cut her hair in a pretty short style till she is older??

well those parents do still excist. They want to look so "awesome" from the outside, little daughter, long blond hair, mommys favourite... those people are just not practicle at all

Maybe they are scared she will look like a boy and turn out a lesbian.

Get a huge bottle of that untangling spray on stuff for hair, it's usually in the kiddies toiletry section at the shops and helps quite a bit.

Or the evil route, someone "accidently" dropped gum in her hair and you had to have it cut into a shorter style.

Maybe guys associate long hair with females, and don't understand the pain of knots.

No idea about %, but lots of men simply prefer long hair on women (both little girls and adult women), so I suppose you need to examine that preference HC :)

now ways she would ever be mistaken for a boy. she's got the cutest dimples, and long pretty lashes.

/sigh

I've asked them before why they don't just cut her hair until she is a bit older, but no.

I feel really sorry for her

practical.

When mine was 2 she wanted long hair - the 'Disney princess' meme is strong with 2 year old girls.

TBH: we'd have had it cut in a heartbeat but she wanted it long... even when brushing hurt.

What's with these lazy parents that they cant do it themselves? This lack of parental involvement doesn't bode well for the girl's future relationship with them.

If they dont want to cut it then simply stop brushing it out for them.

you see, there's a difference. If they can decide for themselves they want it long, and am willing to put up with the pain.

But I feel in some cases, it just is not practical at all. some babies/lil girls never cry and sit still patiently. All kids are different.

At the first school I worked at, tears ago, we had a liil girl of a CEO. SHe was cute, blonde hair. But so knotty, worse than a dogs matted coat. When I asked the mom why they don't brush it, I was told she (the lil girl) bites them if they try.

So I asked them to send a brush and explained to the lil girl what I was gonna do and why. It wasn't long before she started nagging her parents to buy her cute clips and ribbons etc. But then again, she was 3.

The older they are, the easier it is to discuss the pro's and cons with them.

they don't even cut her nails. I started cutting it, and they nearly flipped. So I stopped. But then she started biting her nails when it became too long. Her toe nails looked horrible. They would tear and bleed because they were so long (curled over front of toe).

So I just decided bugger them. This lil girl does not deserve this. And started cutting her nails again.

And no, I won't stop brushing it just because they are too lazy (yes, maybe it'll solve the problem). But what does this lil girl learn out of all this? Besides, I wouldn't be able to stand looking at her with messy hair

People always told my mother that they could not believe i was a boy..." he is so pretty!"

I still had short hair until grade 6

My mom said i would have looked like fiela se kind if i had long hair.:o No one would have been able to come near me with a brush.

Sounds like you've taken over most of their job.

Not to be nasty, but if they could not be bothered with these basic things, do even care about their own appearance?

they always seem to be well groomed and dressed. just can't understand why they would neglect this side of it

Ok - fair enough the nails pose a health risk but you're mollycoddling the parents wrt the hair and the more duties they pass off to you the worse it will get. You need to have a sit down with the parents.

What's the girl learning from things the way they are now?

Why dont you just cut her hair today - they'll probably be back on Monday.

I kinda have the same issue with parents piercing their baby daughter's ears whilst they're like 4 months. Why the fsck do that? Wait until the child can decide for themselves if they want their earlobes pierced for earrings or studs.
