Long service awards.

5 years, I got 3 days extra leave
10 years, will be 6 days afaik.
Dunno after that.

Last company in SA gave 3 extra leave days after 4 years, another 3 after 7 years.

Worked out well since I was on 21 days already before the 4 year mark, so got boosted up to 24 days a year before I left.

Got my 10 year service award last week, was a pat on the back, or not even, just a thank you

5 years - R5k voucher at a choice of shops.

I don't know about the other milestones. Previously people got an iPad or something, but I prefer the voucher.

At my previous company we didn't get anything or any kind of recognition for long service, but we did get 5 extra days leave per year at the 3 year mark, and another 2 extra leave days at the 7 year mark. (15 -> 20 -> 22 if I remember correctly)

I am up for a 35 years long service award at my company soon, but I am not overly impressed at the company's policy on long service awards.

In short, it is a follows:

10 years - R2000, taxable.
15 and 25 years - R5000 untaxed.
35 years - R7500 untaxed.
40 years - R15000 untaxed.
45 years - R5000 untaxed, R19500 travel award, booked by the company's travel agent. 5 Days special leave to make use of this holiday award.

Share your company's long service rewards, it should be interesting.:)

At my workplace, you used to get a Kruger Rand at 20 years.
At 15 years, half a Kruger Rand.
Not sure about 10 and 25.

Company I used to work for gave us 3 months leave every 10 years. Not in addition to normal leave. Could cash in up to 2 months (taxed to the max though). Was a nice perk. They did away with it a while back.

Kruger Rand for 5, 10 and 15 years (rinse and repeat)

10 years and up gets you a 1 ounce Kruger Rand (which is around R18k now I think).

I got my 10 year one already. Almost at 15 >.<

5yrs - Dinner + 1 night away to the value of 3k
10yrs - Dinner + 3 nights away to the value of 10k

Company is not even 15 so no idea what those will get.

Was 5 extra leave days for every 5 years worked. Unfortunately our section was bought by another company, so I am stuck on the 20 leave days now even now that I am on 10 years, they give you nothing for long service lol.

Think my 15 years award was R2k and 4 days extra leave (only for the year in question).

It's been chopped and changed so much over the years, no one knows what it will be when if and when I hit 20 years.

10 yrs - certificate (not received)
15 yrs - as above
20 yrs - certificate received from a colleague who found it among some junk papers.
25 yrs - certificate (not received), e-mail received to collect a R1500 mall voucher from HR.

My previous employer "forgot" to give me my 15 year long service award. Now days you lucky if you get a cold pie and a warm coke...

Didn’t even know long service awards existed. And doubt I worked at a company having one.

Is it common in SA?

In the software industry having worked somewhere for more than 10 years is almost always a bad sign...

Previous company has half Kruger rand at 5 years and full Kruger rand every 5 after that. The leave allocation starts at 17 and went up by 1 every year till a max of 25.

5,10,15 years lunch and a cert.

10,15 years you get to choose a gift between R500 to R1000 value.

5 years leave accumulate at 1.5 days a month, 10 years at 2 days a month ( really enjoy having 2 days leave a month).

Unsure what happens at 20+years.
