Lonmin miners start marching (Armed again!!!!!)

The government cannot stop this, because the selfsame government used exactly the same methods to fight their fight 20 years ago. Where do you think this crowd learned from?
 
Those miners were armed?

Now we know where all our guns that we surrendered, because of the stricter gun-owning laws, went to. Fight fire with fire(arms). Cops should shoot this lot as well.
 
If there were no repercussions I'd be more than happy to go down there and shoot them all myself. Bunch of animals!

You can be armed without a firearm. A knife or a club is a weapon too.

Maybe if they didn't spend their cash on junk like knobkerries, they'd actually have more money :erm:
 
I understand some people are unhappy with Woolworths employment practices - maybe they should also head down to their local Woollies and assault anybody trying to enter the store, or threaten to kill the staff if they don't close the store down - judging by how miners are now treated, it should be legit...

Pension (14.83%) - R801.56
Medical - R556.00
Housing - R1,850.00
RDO allowance - R750.00

And add in an average bonus of R1500

So basically, I think they have zero reason to be striking, they've got it pretty dam well I think. But of course, they want 12.5k AFTER all deductions :rolleyes:
 
Time to bring a couple of 50 cals :) and a mini gun. Clear that koppie once and for all... but on a serious note now, I cannot believe they are back there again and now threatening management as well :( The stupidity....

I thought they wanted R12.5K CTC.
My wife who has ten years teaching experience, two degrees and works at a well known (expensive) private school barely earns that much after deductions.
These guys have totally unrealistic expectations if they expect to earn more than qualified professionals.

Nope, they want that nett.
I blame the unions, specifically this new upstart union, which has promised these workers this nett salary if they join up.
 
There is absolutely no need to carry anything while embarking on a strike.
The mere fact that they do makes clear their intentions, albeit indirectly.

Just get together and strike all you want.
Play the numbers game and apply pressure via the economics of it all. Mine management will hear that first I promise when the $$$$ start to dwindle away.
The public in general will be much more understanding of their plight if they did this in a peaceful manner.
Marching with knobkirries or sitting on a hill with spear or carrying a R1 rifle, there is no difference at all. Weapons are weapons plain and simple, traditional or not.
My traditional weapon is a R1 rifle and 200 rounds, that would not make sense either.

Just protest peacefully without any weapons, please.

I think you're wife is screwed. My wife is still finishing her diploma in teaching, got her degree last year, and she's only been working this year.. And she is quite close to that. Not even private school..

Not a chance in Mining. We earn a lot more than that. My discipline with 5years experience commands R1 - R1.4 million.

Many people in mining who are skilled have no degrees (or formal education) and earn a lot.
