Good let the mine close then we will see what they have to say.
No thats not good. The strikers are a minority of the 28 000 workforce. Closing down the mine will impact over 40 000 people (permanent workforce, contractors, consulting companies etc).
Why don't these 28000 shut down the few troublemakers then? A visit at night with some knopkieries should do it...
That would result in a bigger anarchy within the mining industry as a whole, as big as the ANC-IFP battle in early 90's.
The issue should rather be handled by Lonmin management, Government, Chamber of Mines and the Unions.
Worse than it is now?
Well this is quite the kick in the teeth for our economy. Lonmin mine closes down, our economy takes a hit, the worlds platinum economy takes a hit and our government are going to be feeling very red faced with a lot of local and international businesses looking at them in anger. Those unions that started all this will be dismantled, the workers will be jobless and ol' Juju will be taken out the picture for good. Why? because well all know that the mines are our economic back bone and with this incident, foreign investors are not going to be so keen to invest here. SA does have enough big wigs in place to bypass the government and spotlight and quietly put measures in place to make sure this does not happen again.

R12k a month? I know of people with tertiary degrees (not diplomas) that make less in a month.
Lots of the articles I've read since yesterday openly quote these protestors saying they are going to kill people who show up for work. Can't the police do something or are they all to scared because of what happened the last time?
This seems like a much better idea.

Probably have their hands tied. I would love see what is said if we get some sweet footage of miners hacking people to death.
We need to send all the NON SAPS crowd control experts who commented on the shooting, there to manage the situation
