Looking for a good fuel efficient city run around

Under the slopes of Table Mountain
With the price of diesel where it is I am looking to purchase a fuel efficient city run around.
Must have 4 doors and not struggle up hills!
Must run on the smell of an oil rag!

Any suggestions?

Citroen C3 and equivalent Peugeot and the Polo Bluemotion have very good fuel efficiency.

But you must calculate how long the low fuel efficiency will take to be worked off, against the price of a new or more expensive fuel efficient model. It could easily be years.
 
Turbo diesels have lots of torque, won't struggle up Hills.
Polo blue motion, I think it's a 1.2l, economy seems incredible.
 
I can recommend the Toyota Etios, it is basic, but has a/c, a few airbags, 1.5litre engine, and is phenomenally economical. Does not have the greatest handling, but the motor is punchy and the gearing perfect, and for a cheapie, it gets you where you want to be.
And it has resale value ( said for those who despise the brand) It also comes with 2 year service plan and the usual 3 year warranty. I have put 7000 flawless kays on mine since November 2013, and love to hit the road with it because it sips petrol.

Yes, it's an Indian made Toyota, but if you want entry level fussfree transport, its quite perfect. There are several better cars available grantedly,but the little Etios does well for those who don't have big budgets. The OP asked about economical cars, and thats what the Etios is, no more, no less.

i highly doubt that figure.
I know the fiesta tdci econetic won the total fuel economy run.

I owned one until recently and averaged around 4.8l/100 km. It isnt the fastest car, but it has enough power to get you where you need to go.
 
OP asks about a diesel, that doesn't struggle up hills... and we get suggestions of Etios and i10.
 
I don't really want to spend more than R150,000
I have a Toyota Hilux 4*4 bakkie. Very happy with it, but it costs over R1000 to fill the tank, which I do 4 times a month.
I need the 4*4 for when I go to the bush, so I want to keep it.

He says he wants a diesel... Hence the smell of an oil tag sentence. Please attempt to not make yourself look like a fool.

EDIT: At least, that is where I got it from. I might be wrong, but you arrogant reply was still unnecessary.
