I'm not planning to buy.

I just want to have a quote to add to by budget request for next year. It's for the Governing Body and PTA to decide if new PCs for my class is a priority or not and whether a fundraiser needs to launched.

Where can I get a competitive quote for 50 PCs.

Of course I live in the Western Cape so some business in the Cape Town area will probably be the most realistic choice.

I'm also looking for the quotation to be itemized, i.e. Monitor - Tower - Peripherals ... so that the decision can be made to select a total package or maybe just the towers.

Specification-wise, I'm looking at i3 processors with 4GB RAM and 1TB of HDD space.
We will probably have to run with these PCs for a number of years, so if you think that the specs are a little bit too weak, feel free to make recommendations. I love recommendations.

Remember. These are PCs for a primary school. The most demanding software that will run on the PC will probably be Windows 7 ... except if the Department of Education finds a way to supply us a with a Windows 8 license.

I will also be wanting to dual-booting with the newest educational distro of Linux but I don't expect it to be more demanding on the system resources than Windows.

What do you want to use them for?

I can do the towers for just under R4500 vat inc. Send me your mail address if you want me to give you detailed quotes.

If you read xD

Why would you need 1TB HDD's for these pc's?

Rather take smaller drives and use the extra cash towards better processors.

Oh, forgot to mention, that does not include any discounts I would be able to get for having such a large order.

You may like to consider Ncomputing terminals rather than PC's. With Multipoint Server 2012 you can run videos on a properly spec'ed server and network. Most of the cost would go towards licensing however will come down dramatically on academic licensing. Our schools love the package as it includes the eyespy software which allows all sessions to be controlled by the teacher - projecting his screen to teach, locking keyboards etc. No theft as terminals are kinda useless without server. Support is easier as you just access servers. Enquire from your local Mustek supplier.

1TB each? are you crazy?

I suggest 30 PC's with 320GB and 1 Server with 1/2TB

PS: I would rather use Win 7 as a stepping stone instead of Win 8

Drop the 1TB HDD per workstation and rather get a 128GB SSD for almost the same price. Windows 7 will run 10+ times faster. Thank me later...

Price difference between different hard drive sizes won't make up enough to get a better CPU.

Agreed with this, will be about R400 more but will gives the Pc's such a huge performance increase.

Depending on what you are going to put on the Pc's you could get away with a 64GB one.

You aren't thinking about the function factor here, These are PCs for a primary school. The most demanding software that will run on the PC will probably be Windows 7 they won't be rendering Cinema 4D with ambient occlusion with global illumination for crying out loud.

The PCs will most likely only be turned on once per day, the 2nd pc in my house is a I3-3220 with 2GB DDR3 1333 RAM and a 500GB 5400RPM drive and that thing is blazing fast, word etc open within seconds, so why waste money?

Normal hdd's are much more reliable for his long term usage with undemanding software usage so no point going for ssd.

I would recommend going for an i5 at least to make the pc's future proof, and yes 1tb is overkill what are you planning to store on these pc's lol.

HP Pro 3500MT, meets all your requirements, wont be cheap but will have a great warranty. Request special bid pricing.

The price may suprise you, we just bought 400, got it for almost half the price I check if googling.
