Hi all

The batteries on my Mecer 2.4KVA / 1440W inverter are not lasting more than an hour and I dont think its worth replacing lead acid batteries. I am looking for a good, small Lithium inverter than can power a 50 inch LED TV and laptop (nothing else) for around 4-6 hours, with a life of around 2000/3000 cycles.

There is so much out there that I have a headache from looking and reading reviews - can anyone enlighten me on what is the best of whats out there?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there - yes of course, sorry - based on what I need to power, around the R10K mark? But I would hate to save R1000 and regret it later. I guess I just want to know whats the best of whats out there that will provide the power that I need for 4-6 hours.

Personally, I would replace the lead acids with lithium directly - those Mecer 2.4/1440 are the ones where you can set the charge current to 10 (instead of 20)? I would do that.

R9000 for 2 batteries for your Mecer 2400VA

1200 Watt hours in total, more than enough for your laptop and tv

Geewiz have a range of inverter trolleys:

ok so my inverter model can just have lithium batteries installed? What config change needs to be made to the inverter (@ld13) - this charge current setting, how is it changed?

No change to inverter
You buy lithium batteries that are Drop In Lead Replacements

Like the link I sent you
Theres lots of batteries that do that

@RedViking has a thread running on the Mecer 2400VA
You will find all the answers there
@ScottulusMaximus also has a thread running where he imports batteries directly from overseas and sells them to us

The Mecer 2.4KVA 1400W can use LifePO4 LA drop in replacements. Many people here use it with Lithium, but rather replace that POS. My second one just died after 7 weeks. Garbage.

Rather get something like this for R4150 that's also pure sine wave and can support solar if you want to add some panels later:

What battery are you running with this inverter?
His budget all in is R10k

So Makro have these batteries at a good price

If its as simple as just removing the old and adding the new I am going to look into that, if the inverter can handle things that looks to give me another 3000 cycles...

If replacing the inverter is an issue then its best to just buy a new unit and start again but if the current one can handle then I could be good...Thanks so much everyone!

Sorry guys I do have another question though - on my invoice the batteries I currently have are 100AH 12V Deep Cycle AGM batteries - but the drop in Lithium options are only 50AH, have I missed something?

He can't get what he needs for R10K. 1x 12V 100Ah LifePO4 is already R7500-R8000 and won't cut it for 6 hours depending on the TV. Even if it does it then it won't charge up before the next loadshedding session. You spend less now, but will pay more in the long run...

Even the Geewiz 1Kw Axpert is R4000 now.

NENERGY LITHIUM 1.28KWH 12V 100AH + SUN SOLAR 1000watt( No solar , 20ah charging, does have loud fan) comes to around 10k, sometimes even cheaper. If you get from local store in cpt.

the mecer 2400lbks is not suited for lithium charging

the mecer 2400mppt is suited for lithium charging.

mustek say so.

just because it is a drop in replacement lithium battery does not mean it can go anywhere.

the "drop-in replacement" refers to the form factor of the battery... the dimensions of it. that is all.

charge the battery wrong and you will damage it and void its warranty.

lead acid charging is not the same as lithium charging.

edit: additionally, get yourself a battery equalizer/balancer if you are connecting the batteries in series.

there are correct ways of doing things. some problems take longer to show than others.

LFP have more capacity than LA due to the peukert effect mainly and you can discharge them lower than LA, so yes, they are smaller than what you have but will still provide the same performance, if not better.
Lead acid: 100 (80Ah peukert effect)Ah x 12V = 1200Wh (960Wh)(50% rule = 600Wh(480Wh))
LiFePO4: 50Ah x 12.8V = 640Wh (512Wh to 80% DoD)
