Since I started on the fibre installation mission, I've been checking the fibre forum quite often. I feel like I'm outside the restaurant window staring into the room filled with nice food. But soon, soon it will be mine.

Things I'm looking forward to:
  • Reliable speed (compared to LTE which flakes up and down)
  • Known monthly amount (rather than topping up %!&$ LTE data after multiple mobile devices upgrade themselves)
  • Proper solid audio/videoconferencing - do this multiple times per week to local & overseas
  • Solid remote desktop (better latency, reliable speed)
  • Automated daily online backup
  • Streaming, both video and RadioZA app
  • Allowing my TV to connect to the net again. It killed my data when I did it last
  • All my music synced on all my devices
  • Having a faster connection than work, until the work fibre arrives
  • Building out a few apps that can assume 24/7 connectivity

I'm getting excited. They've installed the ONT device in my unit so I should be getting wired up soon. Metrofibre just need to connect our complex to the fibre running down the street.

Something I wasn't expecting was an actual fistfight last week Thursday outside our complex - Metrofibre employees vs Huawei. Finally we have some decent competition in the market. So there's something to look forward to.

That takes competition to a different level. Are Huawei Chinese guys or locals? (There's a Huawei bunch near me and they're all Chinese.)

Signed up with Iconnect Tuesday and waiting for Telkom to issues the order number and the whole process that follows that.
Playing the waiting game is fun, it goes down even smoother when you go to rAge and checkout what's going on in the Gaming market.

Nice pricing. Especially good at the low end for the parents-in-law. Will forward.
