My budget is R200 000 max and I want to bring that down to R150 000 using a combination of trade-in (I was offered about R40k 3 months back on current car) and deposit. Hoping for an installment of about R3000 maximum. My choices are:

09/10/11 BMW 320D Auto with around 70k max mileage
09/10 VW Golf 1.4 118kw Highline Manual with around 70k max mileage
10/11 VW Golf 1.4 Comfort line Manual with around 70k max mileage

Requirements

- Motorplan and I'm willing to extend it if it's about to expire
- Leather seats. It would be nice to have a sunroof and other extras

Dream cars were BMW 116i/118i/125i (F20) Steptronic and VW Golf 7 1.4 Comfortline but I'm not willing to pay R250k to R300k or to break the bank.

you want to buy a 2011 model car max, with motorplan still intact ? Good luck with that.

With that budget a Honda Accord 2.4 petrol or 2.2 diesel will give the features you want and is super reliable which appears to be a concern of yours.

LOL!

320d is nice... but how about a newer ford focus?
Ford fuel consumption tends to be higher than the cars I'm looking at, reliability also seems inferior. I don't wanna go Ford again, I want to try other brands.

Honda doesn't excite me and the Accord looks rather massive in size. I'm also willing to consider Audi A3 1.8T 2010-2012.

It must still be under motorplan in order to extend

Oh and 1 year 20k km on an Audi A6 was R34k 3 months back. 2 years and 60k km was R87k
That's insane, may be better to pay a little more for a car still under motorplan and extend when about to expire.

But I have seen a few 320D from that year that still have it, maybe the owners extended.

Maybe look at a newer, less high end car if you want motor plan for the future
