Lost Check-In Baggage

Flew on Ethiopian from JNB to HKG and nobody can tell me where my baggage is after almost 2 days after arrival. Any tips/advice on how to handle this with the airline and travel insurance? I’ve done what I need to up until now.

Did you log a request with the baggage handling company?
Sometimes the baggage is not handled by the airline itself. Last time I flew commercial, friend of mine lost his luggage on Turkish Airlines and they had no clue where is luggage was. The airline directed him to the baggage handling company and 12 hours later he had his luggage.

I recommend you contact travel insurance asap they will guide you better than anyone can here

Not sure who the baggage company is. Maybe I should ask the airline. All they say is that they are trying to locate it. Emailed my travel insurance as their phones are busy and waiting for a reply.

Won’t be surprised if some degenerate stole it at JNB. They’ve broken into my luggage before there.

Good luck @Crankshaft, I can only imagine how stressful your situation must be. Even waiting sometimes for the luggage to arrive at the carousels when almost everyone else has collected their's conjures up feelings of dread.

Hopefully your luggage will be located and is sitting somewhere waiting to be claimed.

Got an email saying they found it in Addis, but because Ethiopian only has one flight into HKG per week I will only get it on 4 May. I’ve got biltong in there too………

Hey at least you going to get it! Did you have any personal or valuable items besides clothing in the luggage?

Nah nothing too valuable luckily. Hey biltong is important!

For future reference always get hold of the airline first for baggage. Travel agents and tour operators do not have access to the baggage tracking on their reservation systems. Their systems are quite advanced and actually very interconnected.

I had a lost bag in the USA once on Emirates and they found it and simply updated that it must follow me to SA and it was put on Delta Airlines to SA.
