I have a self extracting rar which contains the mechanical and electrical manuals for my fiesta and like an idiot i have lost the extracted files AND the non password protected rar i made because i knew i would forget the password.

All i can remember is that the password was like 18 characters long :(

Is there anything i can do or am i royally screwed like i think i am. (Of course i discover this as the cambelt is due to be changed this weekend and the alternator bearing sounds like its starting to seize as of yesterday)

I have a file I encrypted with some software many many moons ago - and I have no clue what the app is, so no clue how to get the contents out :p

Brute force? :p should take forever.

dude wtf did you password protect the file?

if you pm me a link to download the file i can try what i got but with a password that long gonna have minimal success and take a while

That's my problem, it was a link from a the local fordst forums but i can't find the post anymore and the guy uploaded it with a password, that wasn't my bright idea :o

It will take too long to decipher that password, if it's only letters and not number/symbols then not so long, if it's a mixture then forget about it.

If it's only letters then post a download link to it or pm me and I'll try to brute force it.

that is what i am saying post us a link and lets have a go

Password was something like fordstowners.co.za or similar. Just for laughs i tried a brute force but the apps counter only goes up to "more than one year" :o

I feel quite stupid, it could be that... When i get home I'll try that...boy do i feel dof...:banghead:

Ok get someone with a MEAN I7 with 3+ screen cards in sli or crossfire and brute it with the screencards.goes alot faster need special rar recovery program.but it works

Graphics cards have nothing to do with it, it's purely down to the CPU speed and the quality of the program you are using.

How big is the rar file?

Upload it somewhere and give us a link to it or pm me.

When i get home i will try D3X's suggestion and if that fails I'll upload it. Its a a 100mb file, extracts to about 450mb if memory serves me correctly.

Sigh I just found out that the program I use isn't optimized for my processor..

Im at work currently.got the program at home.or google cracking rar passwords with gpu's.gpu's got multiple cores running at great speeds.so char's under brute force goes alot faster.my old amd 5200 went from 19 passwords/sec to 40 odd runing 8600gt single.

It should go quite a bit faster if you can limit the program to just letters and full stops.
It's also most likely only lowercase

If you do get the password it might be a good idea to rar it again without the password

I did rar it without a password because i knew i would forget the password, and i lost that file :D
