Lotus Evija (Hypercar)

Lotus Evija takes the crown for most powerful production car in the world

Lotus confirmed the final specs of its Evija hypercar and the numbers are far better than what the company initially claimed. The total power output stands at 2,011 HP which is nearly 100 HP more than Rimac Nevera manages to squeeze out of its electric motors. But power isn’t everything.

Lotus Evija has 1,256 lb-ft of torque or nearly 1,703 Nm which is 600 Nm less than Rimac or the Pininfarina Battista. And that number again plays the trump card which becomes painfully obvious once we compare the performance of the two cars. Evija accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3 seconds and to 186 mph (nearly 300 km/h) in less than 9 seconds. It gains 100 km/h every 3 seconds - a truly astonishing pace.

For comparison, Nevera deals with 0 to 100 km/h sprint in less than 2 seconds and then it gets to 186 mph in 9.3 seconds or blink of an eye slower than Evija, but it plows on to its 256 mph top speed (412 km/h). Lotus decided to limit the top speed of Evija to 217 mph or 349 km/h - which is still ridiculous speed by any standards.

Evija weighs in at 1,886 kg which is mainly due to its 93 kWh battery pack since the rest of the car is made of carbon fiber and even wheels are magnesium to try and save on weight. Nevera is 270 kg heavier which is quite a significant difference. The Evija manages to get 250 miles (400 km) which is ok when you consider recharging takes less than 20 minutes if you can find a 350 kW DC charger.

Lotus Evija Becomes Most Powerful Production Car In The World

Production of the Lotus Evija has begun and it is even more powerful than what we expected.

The final power output from the four-motor powertrain comes in at 2,011 hp (1,500 kW), making it the most powerful car in production. The setup is also said to deliver 1,700 Nm (1,256 lb-ft) of torque.

With such an output, Evija owners can expect 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in under three seconds and 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) acceleration in under nine seconds. The top speed is a governed 350 km/h (217 mph).

To mark the start of production and celebrate 50 years since Emerson Fittipaldi piloted a Lotus Type 72 to five victories in the 1972 Formula 1 season, winning himself the Drivers’ title and Lotus the Constructors’ title, Lotus has unveiled the special-edition Evija Fittipaldi (just eight units will be built).

“I’ve really enjoyed being a part of this project and it’s been a wonderful experience revealing the car to some of the new owners,” Fittipaldi said in a statement. “Having the opportunity to drive both the Evija Fittipaldi and my championship-winning Type 72 Formula 1 car on the test track at Hethel has been an incredible experience.”

Lotus Evija: a tale of delay, determination and drive

Following a two-year delay that felt more like an eternity to eager customers, Lotus is finally handing over the keys of its much-anticipated electric hypercar, the Evija, to buyers. The wait may have been long, but if the auto world buzz is anything to go by, it seems it might just have been worth it.

The arrival of the Evija wasn't an easy ride, with a couple of hefty speed bumps on the way. The first stumble came in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic, which threw a wrench into the world's gears, disrupting supply chains and stalling production. The next challenge came when Lotus' partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering hit the brakes, resulting in a re-evaluation of the high-voltage systems and further delay in development.

Despite these roadblocks, Lotus persisted, remaining transparent about the delays and the circumstances behind them. This clarity was appreciated by many customers who, despite the setbacks, decided to stay along for the ride. They say good things come to those who wait, and for these car enthusiasts, their patience is about to pay off.

This beast of a vehicle boasts four electric motors, which together produce an eye-watering 1,973 hp and a staggering 1,700 Nm of torque. With these numbers, the Evija has earned the coveted title of the world's most powerful electric hypercar. But it doesn't stop there. The Evija can accelerate to 299 km/h in under nine seconds and can reach a top speed of 351 km/h, that is, if you've got the guts to switch to the exhilarating 'Track' mode.

Lotus says the first Evija customers will get their cars in the “next few weeks”

Are you an impatient millionaire with a 2,000bhp electric hypercar on order? We have good news

Lotus has some very big plans for the growth of the company in the next few years. So much so, we almost forgot about the 2,000bhp-ish Evija hypercar. Almost.

We first saw the Evija way back in 2019, and TG even drove a prototype version at Lotus’ Hethel test track in 2021. Since then, things have been rather quiet, and we don’t just mean because of the Evija’s electric powertrain.

Now though, Lotus has confirmed the first very customers will be getting their extremely rapid hypercars very shortly indeed.

“Production has started,” a Lotus spokesperson told TG. “The cars are in there [the dedicated Evija building at Hethel], production is happening, first customer cars will be delivered in the next few weeks.”

Lotus Evija enters production, to reach the first customers in a few weeks

Lotus has officially announced the start of the Evija production. This is the most powerful production car in the world right now, boasting 2,011 hp and 1,703 Nm instant torque. A series of delays pushed the production date, but it has finally come.

Lotus spokesperson said that the factory in Hethel, England is already assembling the Evija and the first customers will get their Evijas in the following weeks. We don't know how many of the planned 130 units have been sold, though.

Jenson Button’s Lotus Evija is a tribute to his 2009 championship-winning Brawn

Oh, and Lotus has confirmed that the finished Evija makes more power than it originally announced

“The most powerful series production road car ever,” says Lotus after confirming that the now-finished Evija will ship to customers with 2,011bhp, rather than the puny 1,972bhp that was originally announced.
Surely a car with that much poke makes a worthy canvas on which to celebrate your greatest achievement then, and Jenson Button has done just that.

As you can see in the images above, Button’s Evija pays tribute to his 2009 F1 World Championship-winning Brawn BGP 001, with an Arctic White, Verve Yellow and Carbon Black livery.
“I've obviously been part of the process coming up with the design and what have you, and I saw the photos from a couple of days ago which looked amazing,” Jenson told TG as the car was unveiled at The Quail. “But to actually see it in real life is another step. It’s awesome. Looks amazing.
