After having had a headache the whole day decided this is the time to take mine and it gave me 3.7. On a previous occasion at the doctor it was 3.8. This after having eaten, this time a koeksister and a piece of cake not more than 2 hours before.

Is there anybody else that gets low blood sugar? If so what usually causes it?

You might be diabetic, but unless a DR as said you are, you are not.
Normal HGT (sugar levels) for most adults is 3.5mmol/L to 7.0mmol/L - any between this is fine.
BUT
Having said that, it's person specific, you might start feeling weird and such with levels of 5 where as most other people will be fine and start acting 'weird' once their levels reach 3.

Have you checked your blood pressure?

Do you have a history (family history) of diabetes?

Your body might be producing to much insulin it just means you run out of energy fast.

Blood pressure is usually between 110 and 115 whenever I check it. My father has type 2 diabetes but his glucose level is always above 4. From what I understand a low level is the result of too much insulin or medication and not the diabetes itself. On the weird side the other day I went without food and it was above 4.

Possibly underactive thyroid.
So that affects sugar uptake or just what the body uses it for?

It looks like you are a pre-diabetic. How old are you? How come you bother about this? A healthy person never bothers about blood sugar levels. The doctor will ask you to check things out if there is some probability of wrong. I guess I am just very lucky. Only been a few times to the doctor in my entire life (because of colds and had to fix one tooth some years ago) I can't even remember to have ever had a headache. I wish I had as much money as I have good health :D

Well the simpler the sugar (koeksister is very simple, quick to digest) the quicker your insulin spikes, followed by the sudden drop in blood sugar. Try avoid simple sugars and high GI/GL foods, they're demanding on the bodies systems.
Simple things people don't realise is that even white bread can spikes blood sugar faster than table sugar.
You are NOT diabetic, I can almost guarantee it, my body also spikes insulin very very quickly. Try a low GI/GL diet.

You need to go to a DR and check if you might be heading for diabetes and then you'll need to change your diet accordingly.
It's hard to give you my opinion over a forum, so the best bet is, if you think something is wrong, just goto a DR and tell him and see what he says.

One explanation that makes sense. My diet isn't usually very rich in high GI food and wherever we can we try to go the brown/wholewheat route.

@Africaner & Gdiza: The reason I bother with it is because I'm not healthy. Have been to doctors on several occasions but none of them are really interested in finding out what the problems are. Had to practically beg to get the tests done that were done and on those occasions my hunches were pretty much correct. Not going to waste further money on it when the only tests they are interested in are the ones they can easily treat like FBC, TSH and cholesterol and often with its own side effects.

Metabolic Syndrome X - google it... Your body overreacts to the sugar you're eating and dumps your blood sugar.

probably due to your diet. eating foods with high sugar content does not necessarily mean your blood sugar should sky rocket. Sugars are absorbed quickly and the body will secrete insulin to deal with it. The more sugar the more insulin so that is why you may experience a rapid drop. Try eating more low GI foods and avoid getting into the state where you get so hungry you forced to eat sweets etc.

random blood glucose wont tell you much you should do either a GTT or HBa1c blood test.

or you can diagnose your life with something wildly ridiculous searching the net

Why always the assumption that if there's something wrong someone must automatically not be eating healthy?

Do you call a koeksister and a piece of cake a healthy diet?

Granted that's all the information we have for now, but I can see where he is coming from.

To have a headache and then have those sweets and wonder why is a bit odd, while it should be no surprise really.

No you are taking it out of context and assuming it's the rule rather than the exception. Like I already said my diet is healthy. Very rarely any fast foods like KFC and stuff and only pizza like once a month. When I get up it's All Bran with one teaspoon of sugar. The rest is mostly homemade "boerekos." You won't find any white bread here either.

Obviously if you already have a headache it can't be caused by whatever you eat afterwards. Sometimes eating actually helps to make it go away.

I am digging up this old thread ... and by googling it, I think I have low blood sugar.

I do weekly parkrun's (I really enjoy it), but lately I feel horrible after a 5k run ... as in my hands are tingling, sweaty (and neck are cold), and even at a stage where I loose vision.

:(

Yeah, that sounds like electrolytes, a lactic acid build-up in muscles. Get some rehydrate after a run, a small breakfast/lunch/snack

Still needs a doctor. I run 21k with normal hydration at the wayside stations without needing electrolytes. Zero has an underlying issue.

I am so over doctors actually. Spend R30 000 not so long ago trying to pin point the issue. It came out all healthy, including blood tests.

So I am really wonder it could be. As I said, if I google the symptoms, it boils down to low blood sugar.
