Thanks for the message. :) Do you know if you are able to do a factory reset to reset the firmware back?

LTEWatch | for Huawei models
The comprehensive analysis tool for Huawei devices with Hilink

With a new LTEWatch version especially for Huawei devices, this disadvantage belongs to the past. With the free tool of LTEWATCH - you can for the first time (!) Read all important reception parameters conveniently and analyze them over time . Interesting for professionals and laymen alike. Because to align an LTE antenna or the error analysis, these values are essential. The tool works with most recent Huawei devices with Hilink interface .

You can download and use the program completely free of charge. An installation is not necessary. Simply unpack the program into a directory of your choice (eg on the desktop) and start the LTEWatchH.exe. Before that, your Huawei device must already be connected to the Internet. If you have entered a password, this must be stored in the tool once, otherwise no analysis can take place. Also note that Microsoft .NET must be installed for operation. Since several other software programs also need this, .NET can already be found on most PCs.

New: Version 1.1. now supports more devices (eg various sticks) and also offers a English language file for our Global friends ...

Worst router to customise. Just buy another and use it as a glorified LTE modem.

Which one do you recommend? ^

As your primary router - i.e. the one that acts as your gateway as far as your clients is concerned, one of these:
https://www.bestvpn.com/5-best-dd-wrt-routers/
All of those support DD-WRT and of course even the stock firmware is good.
Alternatively, a Mikrotik routerboard product.

For the LTE traffic, the Huawei B618 is good...

Now what do I mean by that? If you own a B618, I recommend you get another router for your home networking needs and connect the B618 to the WAN port of the new router. You then disable Wifi on the B618 so that everything routes via the more flexible and configurable primary router.

DD-WRT / OpenWRT / Tomato / Gargoyle firmware all open up additional features such as logging etc.

Unfortunately these Huawei products have the worst support I've seen in any router in terms of firmware availability online. This is what we have unfortunately come to accept from mobile device manufacturers.

Thanks so much! :) I will keep this in mind!

Only took about a year... ;)

Although one thing which still perplexes me is what on earth happened to the pretty white casing?!? Why does my router now suddenly look so ugly??

Yes, if I click the "Check for update" option then it spins for a few seconds and proudly declares "This version is up-to-date. ".

I got it through Afrihost so pretty sure it's the same one.

Not that the VOIP is critical, I'd use it if it were available but it's no deal-killer. I'm more concerned about security updates which haven't happened at all since I got the device.

Do you have the B315 or the B618?
